The "Whatever" Thread

Me and the middle boy have been sick all weekend.
He started with a fever yesterday morning. If it keeps up through the day, we'll be going to the doc tom.
Im not too worried about myself as long as the fever doesnt set in.
It just sucks because sickness is a chain reaction around here. With three boys always in eachothers faces, its hard not to pass it around.

Its just that time of year I guess.

My son went to the doctor today and he has Strep Throat. He was almost crying last night because his throat hurt so bad.
It hasn't affected me so much, but its sure hard to see a 2 year old sick as a dog like that.
Now he'll be on antibiotics for the next 10 days.

That's the only thing I cant stand about the colder months, the sickness

Thanks John. Long as we're both well by the 26,27 of this month itll all be ok.
There is a yearly Jeep Hillclimb competition about 30 minutes from my house. Its call the Louisiana Club Challenge.
Me and my dad go every year and now that my middle boy has a couple of years under him he can join us to!

Heres a link to the website if yall want to check it out. This is one of the highlights of my entire year!
The videos really don't do justice to how gnarly some of the hills truly are.

Narco's is my show lol. I just binge watched it also. damn good series. John it's about the life of Pablo Eskabar and the DEA agents trying to catch him. It's a very good series and all 10 episodes are already out and definitely worth the watch.

I hate to say it but the other netflix series orange is the new black is great also. I really dig it lol.

Holy crap some people just don't realize how simple it is to Just Be A Good Person!

The guy in the video was a wanted suspect and had freaking BB GUN hidden in his waist.
He proceeds to pull his 'weapon' on the officers after they exit the restaurant.
You can guess how the rest plays out.

I just wanted to post this to say thankyou to all the police officers who put their lives on the line everyday.
THANKYOU

The video in the link below is pretty graphic and John, feel free to remove it if it crosses any boundaries.

I've seen that video before as well as the other one from the other officers body cam. IIRC, the female officer actually drew her taser first and then draws her firearm. Stress is a b!@ch.

I think this video is a great example of how dynamic situations like this are and the challenges and dangers the officers that protect us everyday face. The subject seems compliant but things change very quickly.

Im just glad the dude didn't try pulling the weapon inside the restaurant.
Alot of people could have been caught in the crossfire.

wild day on the mild streets of my town in VT. my gf sent me a link to an article where a 10-year-old boy was attempted to be kidnapped right at the end of my street. this really makes me angry. wtf.

also, i went to the store tonight to get some bourbon (sometimes happens) and couple dudes were talking about how a guy got hit (and killed) on the traintracks this morning. i'm suspect. it would seem that it would be hard to get hit by a train. but, that is my cynical nature. i don't know anything about the story.

Did you get the bourbon?

First things first you know.

After the bourbon, you need to get together with three friends and go walk the tracks in search of the rumored body, it might make a good coming-of-age story!

Only if they end up making a movie about it though.

Bring another friend and have him hold the camera

So this is definitely in the "whatever" category.

I have had a pretty much life-long love for Buck knives, starting with the folding hunter (110) when I was young. In my high school at the time, a lot of the fellows I hung with had a sheath knife of some sort on their belt every day (things were very different in the early 70's.)

I initially carried a Buck 110, and then later a 112 as that was a little smaller and even then I just liked the look of the slightly smaller "Ranger", or 112.

Fast forward to 2015. I am much older, and a lifetime member of the Buck Collectors Club.

Over the years, I have admired the work of one David Yellowhorse, who is one of the penultimate customizers of the Buck 110 and 112, amongst others.

David is of Navajo descent, and he has been producing, from his home in Southern Arizona, beautiful art including buckles, lighters, wall hangings, and of particular import to my story, Buck knives, since the late 1970s.

Nowadays. I am teaching Concealed Carry and Firearms Safety classes in Illinois. I always show my students a few knives, and have several knives laying on a demo table on the second day of class. One of my students came up to me a couple months ago and said something to the effect of "So you like knives, ever heard of David Yellowhorse? He is my father in law!!"

Wow -

So - last weekend I was honored to meet and have dinner with David and some of his local family. David is very down to earth, and he is not only a knife guy, he is a gun guy, car guy and all around friendly guy!

So there it is. I ate dinner and shot the breeze with David Yellowhorse, and established what I am sure will be a long friendship with the man.

I did not take any pictures, since I thought that would be out of line, but I did talk to David about customizing one of my Buck knives.

John will be interested to know that the knife I am having David customize is the Buck 55 that I bought at a gathering at Mokena long ago.

Just a cool story with a knife undertone that only my true "knife buddies" would understand and relate to.....

I will take pictures of the 55 after David has worked his magic on it, and will post them here for sure.

In the interim, here is a picture of David and myself from Blade this past June - David is the fellow with the hat ;^)

That's really cool Andy! I remember you mentioning him a while ago. It is pretty cool that you got to meet.

And - I used my Crooked Creek this evening to decimate a watermelon - probably the last of year!

You gotta work this weekend, Coop? There's room in "big yella" for you if you want to go to Mokena with me.

They work well on watermelon. Glad to hear it is serving you well.

My 5 year high school reunion is Saturday evening, and for some reason I feel compelled to remind myself why I haven't spoken to most of them in that long.:D

Thanks for the offer, though. Maybe I will luck out and get laid off in time for the November gathering.:D

WHAT DO WE KNOW FOR SURE IS COMING AS FAR AS FOOD AND DRINK?

I COMMITED TO BOURBON, BUT WANT TO BRING SOME OTHER STUFF,

WHAT IS ALREADY ON THE COMING LIST?

And hey COOP! I can give you a synopsis of your 5 year reunion:

Everybody is heavier

All the jocks still think they are jocks

All the cheerleaders are still stuck up

The pretty girls will all have dates and/or husbands

The ugly girls will still be...well, unattractive.

Someone will make a boring speech
Someone else will make an even more boring speech

The chances are very good that someone will drink to much and vomit (don't let that be you).

Now that you know WHAT WILL BE happening, show up FASHIONABLY late and come out to Mokena EARLIER IN THE DAY with MQQn! He will get you back in time for the SLOW DANCES! (and maybe you can show off a new knife or gun that you traded for)

Which is exactly why I have never been to a reunion!
