The "Whatever" Thread

Thanks Mykel -

December was a really bad month at big yellow - they let a lot of people go, and offered voluntary separation packages to people that were x years old or older, and I was .5 years too young for the package.

Luckily, I was one of the lucky people that stayed on, and I have a new position in the new organization that will allow me to still lead a team but without all of the on call support hassles and the work direction etc etc.

All in all it came out very well for me, but the company is still seeing reduced sales and thus the executive office is always looking for new ways to reduce expenses.

I am lucky, very lucky.

Good to hear Andy, congrats.

It's a shame all the non yellow equipment one sees at construction sites now a days.

The man that raised me worked at Peterson Tractor in Ca. until he retired in the 70s so I have some slim roots with big yeller.
They helped put a roof over my head and kept me fed as a kid.

Thanks guys, it's going to be tough working 10 hour days again, but I'l have more time off to recuperate.(and camp!)

Andy..I hope your employment situation is stable.
(The rest of you also for that matter)
I remember you saying something about it being iffy a while ago.

And Stainless90... I'll be rejoining the Operating Engineers.(great bennies)
I remember you mentioned taking an entrance exam for them.(hope you aced it)
Funny that I didn't need too.
Different jobs I suppose.

In other news... I just had eBay find in my favor over a pair of pants that were incorrectly described.
The listing was for a pair of M65 Field pants, but I received a pair of plain BDUs, or Utilities as we called them in the MC.
The M65s take a button in liner for cold weather wear and I use them on cold mornings and nights while camping, but outgrew my old ones so went looking for a replacement pair.
(what can I say, I'm a growing boy, just the wrong way now a days.)

They contacted me I placed near the top in testing so I qualified for an interview (test scores determine hiring priority) that is scheduled for the 23rd.:thumbup:

Good deal on the eBay decision, I had a security fiasco with them for the past month and now how bad their customer service can be.

I worked for a family owned business for 30 years, then the owner decided to retire. His three daughters were all airheads, who were not capable of running the business, so he sold it to a large corporation. I worked there for 7 more years, at which time they moved all production to China and Mexico. We made seals for some big companies like GE and Cat, along with a lot of smaller companies . That was the only job I ever had, started part time when I was still in high school. You guys know the rest of the story, part time retail and knife making after that.

This is our slow time at work, too. I recently got temporarily transferred to a different department in a nearby town (10 minutes further away). Apparently this department is under a big push to get stuff out the door, so I will be getting some overtime this week. Starting at 5 am.
I haven't had to get up that early since deer season.:D

He only works two hours a day. :p.

:D

I didn't get along with my dreams last night. I usually sleep through the night and wake up ready to work. Last night I slept until 0300 and woke up to a weird dream and couldn't get back to sleep for hours. Finally I must have drifted off and just now woke up. Cheez. I'm glad it's Sunday. If I had done this in a weekday I'd be in trouble.

I worked in the family business for about 10 years. Got tired of my Dad's alcoholic abusive wife and all the other crap. I left about 15 years ago, went into I.T. and have never been happier.

whoa. that's a good one. i have rather vivid dreams, especially lately. one night, i was being hunted by a boa constrictor (go figure). the very next night, i was up in scaffolding repairing a big cement dam. scaffolding is wrong i guess. i'm not sure what i was doing up there, come to think of it. i was hanging off something, about ready to fall. that kind of stuff. shrug. these are just the couple i remember lately. i have no idea what it all means. most likely nothing. but dream "stuff" is pretty interesting.

It seems that the cops were called to the neighbor's place several times last night. He eventually went to jail right around the time I finally got some sleep. Hmmmmmm.

Successfully completed my NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Instructors Course this weekend. I've got the KY CCDW Instructor Class scheduled for mid-April.

Bummer Mack - need to get a raft with a sleeping bag on it and float out into Drift Creek ;^)

Good job! Getting more firearms classes in besides what my work requires has been on my short list for a while now right behind volunteering for the local SAR group. Maybe after job stuff gets worked out I'll celebrate with training.

This year I'll be building a deck on my boat so I can get out there and sleep in my favorite fishing holes. :)
