The "Whatever" Thread

Great looking combo! The wood on your Marlin is really nice.

I've got a Busnell Elite 3200 2-7 on a Ruger I hunt with. Good glass and the magnification range is about perfect for my area. The low end allows a wide field of view and quick shooting in the cedar thickets and woods, while the 7x is plenty for shots over the cut corn and soybean fields.

I've got a scope base and rings ready to install, just need a scope.
Going low power, either a fixed 2x or a 1.5 x 4 or5.
Maybe a 2x7.
I need glass so no iron peeps for my old eyes.

The saddle ring pivots stiffly and doesn't rattle so it is staying.

When did you get a Straight Back Kephart?

Yup, I love 2x7, had a Redfield Low Pro on my Model 6 Rem that took my last deer.
I kept it on 2x while in the woods, and when I stepped out onto the power lines I saw a buck quartering away in the adjacent cut down corn field so had plenty of time to crank it up to 7x and get a good steady rest.
In behind the left shoulder and out the right shoulder, clipping the heart on the way.....DDOA.

I'm thinking a 2x7 scope will be a bit large for this carbine so am leaning towards a 1x4.
Plus, it's is a 30/30 not a .270.:)

A nice 1.5x5 would do well on a 30/30. They tend to be super clear optics and very fast.

I really have to make a concerted effort to get better with sheaths, they always gett eh job done but I feel the quality of the finish and details can be hit or miss :(

I have a couple of the older Leupold fixed power scopes and I love them. The 2.5x20 ultralight would be an excellent choice IMHO.

I like the styling of that one - Do you do the edging lines? I notice that on most sheaths there is a line where the stitching is which helps line the stitching up nicely. I also have seen tools that are used to place the holes for the stitching so that is is very consistent - Maybe RGrizzle or Darkmatter could help you with some tips.

Connie just texted me from Target and told me someone got stabbed at Lowes (right next to Target) this morning at around 10. I was there at 9 getting a new battery for my lawn tractor.

Went in for my interview for the union today. Felt pretty good about it now just got to wait until the 7th to get the final word.

Thanks guys!
Good luck!

I think you have most of the technique, just get the stitching a little better. That is the first thing that hits my eye. A groovier and stitching wheel is a good start. I use 7 stitch per. inch. You can find them for a good price at ebay stores with free shipping. Make sure when you make the groove line to first make the edge as flat as you can so the stitch lines up front to back. The groove will also allow the stitches to sit even or below the surface to minimize thread ware. Use the stitch wheel wheel in the groove to space out where you punch the holes. Use it after you stitch to set the thread.
