The "Whatever" Thread

Nice and quiet. Just some very soothing chirping. Hope to catch Mom soon and have this ordeal over with.

We have wildly different definitions of soothing:D.

Should have specified that the babies are chirping, sounds like birds. I would not want to mess with a full grown.

Someone offered their .22, but that would just leave bullet hole in the ceiling.

Not necessarily. I have some .22 shorts that probably wouldn't pass through the coon.

I have done some pretty redneck stuff, but shooting a raccoon in the house is not one of them.:D

To be fair, it is in the attic. Although, picture this.. Honey, I'm going to shoot the raccoon that's in the attic... Tell the girls to stay out of their room for a few minutes.

A friend of mine shot a squirrel in his attic with a .410.

That said, a 'coon is a far tougher critter.

Fair point. I was half joking about the gun. :D

Good luck with the pests.

Yeah. I have seen them take several shots out of a tree and hit the ground running.

A buddy shot one in his attic with a crossbow. Pinned it to the rafter with his last bolt. Coon still very much alive but very pissed and very pinned down. Buddy calls my brother for help. Brother shows up with a 22 Revolver loaded with shorts. Problem over.

Back when I was running a pawn shop, I had a guy come in looking for "something that will kill a damn coon, dead". A raccoon was getting in his hen house and wrecking havoc. Not wanting to scare his chickens to death he borrowed a crossbow (novelty, flea-market type) from someone and lay in wait. He managed to put a bolt in the raccoon, though it was sticking out both sides. Problem was the coon + bolt was to wide to get back out the hole it had come in. So, there he stood with an empty crossbow, between a very agitated racoon and the only exit. When he came to see me he no longer worried about scarring the chickens and left happily with a 20ga.

I figure the least I can do is annoy the snot out of it, because I probably wouldn't be able to get a clear shot, so I picked up one of those air horns and have been blasting it in the attic. Scares the piss out of my dog though.

I am hoping we can force it into the trap next week.

So along these lines, my 75 yr old Mom had a problem with a black bear getting into the apple tree about 15ft from her back deck in N.W. Montana. The bored bear decided to wander up on the deck a few times so she called fish and game. They came and set up a culvert trap on the other side of the house. She hadn't seen the bear for a few days and was out on the deck 10 ft from the un-sprung trap and heard a strange noise coming from the trap. The bear was sitting just inside the end of the trap munching on the bait. Fortunately, the bear finally found another place to hang out. Good luck with your pest, hopefully it will move on in time or you'll have a nice hat.
