The "Whatever" Thread

Snow!

We got dumped on over here in the PNW.
2 or 3 inches at my place but some surrounding areas have a foot or more.
Too bad my truck is not running good, I love driving in fresh snow.

My wife said this is the first year she remembers wanting the groundhog to see his shadow. She said we haven't had a winter yet. She's partially correct but I'm thinking she'll regret the late winter snow we get next month. Of course I'll try to not remind her of being careful what she wishes for.

Kansas at night. Nothing to see there during the day. We've driven cross-country a few times, no offense intended to our brothers/sisters in the plains, but those states are BORING to drive through.

In all seriousness, it depends on the route you take and the time you've got. The St. Louis Arch is cool and worth a couple hours. After that, drive straight through to the Sand Dunes in CO, and check out Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak.

Used to drive I-80 every year to visit my grandmother in Oregon, Iowa and Nebraska were really boring.

If you were going to drive from Kentucky to Colorado, what would you want to see on the way?

I would fly!

I'll echo the others, after you leave St. Louis there really isn't much to see. Arrowhead stadium at Kansas City is neat to see as you drive by. I would think if you detoured south and went I40 across North Arkansas to see the Ozarks, through parts of Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle, on into New Mexico before headed north to Colorado. It would almost double your driving time but that's no big deal, especially with kids right?

So, I was doing some thinking yesterday on the new Vermont Hunter XL (VHXL) that I had acquired. I knew the profile looked a bit familiar but I couldn't place it.

While at work today, it hit me like a ton of bricks.
A photo of the VHXL for reference, and below that is proof that the world works in mysterious ways.

And the following drawing was taken from My Post in the Design your own EDC contest held here in the JK Sub almost one year ago (link below photo):

------
Sure, the sizing is a bit off, but that just moves it from an EDC to a camp and kitchen knife, and the handle shape is slightly different. No complaints will be heard from me about either.

I don't know how to describe it... Possibly serendipitous? Whatever the accurate terminology would be, I am Very Happy.
Thanks to John and Todd for making this possible!

Edit to add: I am rereading both of my posts and I find myself laughing, thinking how crazy this is...

Bass pro in Springfield, Mo or Independence, MO - if you're on I-70, Cabela's is on the opposite side of KC from the BP in Bonner Springs)
Hermann, Mo is a fun town to spend a few hours in - but it's out of the way for everything.
AG Russell's in Rogers Ark. if you go the Southern Route
Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Ks if you have half a day or more to use up and like space stuff/history.

I-40 crossing OK is ALMOST as boring as I-80 crossing Iowa & Nebraska, but the Cowboy Hall of Fame in OKC is way cool for kids and adults.
Topeka has 3 microbreweries. (Manhattan and Lawrence each have a pair as well)

how many of you will there be? if you're not shy about dogs and/or clutter, we have spare bedrooms and can save you a night's lodging 15 miles N of Topeka.

Thanks for the great read, Todd.
I did a few searches and came up with the ready to ship post in 2014, and a few others. Nice info and glad to see some usage pics.

Now to add to them. Hopefully I will have the spare time to get a fire going over the weekend and give it a go in the yard.
