The "Whatever" Thread

Poor Hanna is sick, 102 temp, earache, sore throat, and throwing up. Becky has a closing today, so I am heading over there to stay with Hanna.

Aw man, that sucks. John. Been a lot of that sickness going around. My niece has pneumonia...

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Hanna!

Everyone in my house has the sniffles right now; thankfully, it's nothing worse.

It's definitely going around. We were in the Dells this weekend and my GF's brother's GF was sick the whole time. Then she woke up Sunday morning and found out someone stole her debit card number and emptied her bank account on top of feeling like crap!

Sorry to hear this, it happened to me a few months ago, they only got $200. I was talking to a client of mine and they suggested using a credit card. This way is anything happens, it's not your money you lose.

For over ten years the dentist has been recommending my wife have her wisdom teeth removed. I'm not sure if she ran out of excuses or the pain was finally more than she could handle but today is the big day. We're heading out this morning to have all of them removed. I would say wish her luck but I'll need it more. She makes a great nurse but is possibly the world's worst patient.
I've only had one wisdom tooth come in and it popped right out easy peasy. The dentist was amazed and happy he didn't have to work at it.
Needless to say I was happy too.

Married 30 years today!
Congrats John and Connie.

Sorry to hear, I hope her system is strong enough to kick the bug's ass.

I thought DCs were protected like CCs, tell the bank and have the charge/debit canceled and funds restored.??

This is how our bank handles this situation so it may be different elsewhere. If the customer files a report with the correct authorities, then we will reimburse the fraudulent charges. It usually takes 3-5 business days for the whole process to sort out.
The reason a CC is recommended is that they usually reimburse all charges even without a report the same day. It's a much easier process going through a CC company. We encourage all customers to use CC's when ordering online and to only use a debit card where they can swipe or witness firsthand their card being swiped. I don't quite follow those rules myself and have fallen victim both with my debit card and my credit card.

Thanks for the info Braden.

It's happened to me twice and the bank refunded everything within a few days. She has the same bank as me so I hope it works out in a similar fashion.

The second time was about a year and a half ago and the bank didn't even investigate it. I know there was video of the perp(s) taken at two of the locations where they used the fake version of my card but they told me it was too expensive to try and catch them. Perhaps that is why they continue to do it.

Last year my wife noticed a pending charge to our account. She immediately called the bank. They told her nothing could be done until the transaction was complete. The following day there was another charge from the same business which was a store hundreds of miles away. She received the same response from the bank the second time she called. She then called the store and at first they acted like they were going to help. When she told them it was a Visa not a store credit card their attitude changed. They told her nothing could be done. We had the bank issue her a new card and there were no additional charges. We did get money back but it took a couple weeks.

Her debit card should have been frozen after the first charge. That would have prevented any additional charges. Unfortunately with debit card transactions, we aren't able to do anything until they clear either.

It is extremely difficult to catch the people pulling these thefts because it's very rarely someone local. It is a huge expense for banks that will continue to grow.
