The "Whatever" Thread

I think Nitro V is like AEBL with some added elements.

They are very similar. I think nitrogen and vanadium are the additions. Larrin posted an article about it on knifesteelnerds.com. My take away from that article was that the differences in real world use was minimal. I think it could be hardened one or two more points. My experience with it in two different blades is that the difference is negligible.

Thanks, interesting.

What rifle and caliber is that pictured?

It’s a savage axis In .270. For the price it’s an amazing shooter and the action on the bolt is smooth and crisp along with the factory setting for the accu trigger being perfect out of the box.

We’re in town now and have one last evening left but based off some help from a local this evening we may get one! The weather has been hot for this area during this time of year and we’ve had a full bright moon almost the whole hunt so it was amazing news hearing the local outfitters advice for some Forrest service land.

good luck - a coworker was out there last weekend -- took his teenager on the "hunt of lifetime" - after 2 days with no cell signal, the boy asked if they could go home because he missed his GF...

That’s about the saddest thing I’ve heard. Being in the mountains hiking from peak to peak valley to valley without cell service has been about as perfect as it gets. Out in the middle of no where, dead quiet, and just me and my fiancée glassing and hiking for elk has been about my perfect past 5 days. I don’t get kids nowadays my favorite thing to do growing up was to be in the woods or on the water nothing could of beat that. Now all they do is look down and never look up to see whats happening in front of them life just passes them by.

Ended up not being able to get an elk. the wind picked up real bad for the last two hours of the hunt so the bachelor group we were waiting to ambush before their typical bedding spot never showed up and probably stopped in the canyon once the wind picked up. The weather and moon has been about terrible, but nonetheless it was an amazing 5 day hunt with my fiancée and the country we saw and memories made are all worth it even though we came home empty handed.I’ll post a thread probably tomorrow with our loadouts and some photos from the peaks and valleys we were glassing.

I've said it more than once -- getting out to enjoy nature on a hunt is a win in and of itself.
just the several hours of watching and listening to nature with no worries about the rest of the world to recharge my soul is the main purpose.
pulling the trigger and bringing home meat is a bonus.

I only hunted elk once, about 25 years ago, Montana, just above Yellowstone. Self guided, 3 of us, canvas tent base camp and a backpack spike camp. No elk killed or fired at but 3 nice Mule Deer and a great and memorable time. Carried a Savage also but it was a 110 in 338 Win Mag. This was prior to JK knives, I carried a USA Browning #5518 Trailing Point Knife, still have it (it's to damned thick). One of the guys had a brand new Buck 119 and I watched as a walnut sized chip got knocked out of that knife when he whacked a Mule Deer knee joint. One of the few times I ever heard that guy cuss. ( Buck did replace it)

My daughter had swimming lessons yesterday, so I drove up to meet the ex-wife and baby girl at the Y to watch her kick some butt! Went out for pizza afterwards, and the opportunity for knife use presented itself as our daughter wanted her slices in more bite-sized pieces.

Of course, I had my JK Bluegill with me, so I held the knife in a pinch grip choked up on the blade, and baby girl used a hammer grip on the back half of the handle. It was her first time using a real edged knife, but she's been helping in the kitchen a ton. She was so proud to help out, and I'm so glad I had my JK Bluegill on me for that moment. Thanks for what you do, John!
