The "Whatever" Thread

Cool pics of your Grandpa John.
I wish I had old family pics, but my sister had them all and left them at an exboyfriends house when she moved out and he trashed them.:(

We've had a Pineapple Express bringing rain and warm temps from the south pacific for the past week or so.
One storm after another with a few breaks from the rain between them.Highs in the 50s and lows in the 50s sometimes.
Darn El Nino.

A little rain over here on the East side of the mountains but I guess it really poured in the foothills immediately east of town. Some localized flooding.

Working on a couple of new designs, one a small game style, the other a general purpose woods knife (notice I did not say "bushcrafter.") ;) They share the same handle shape, it`s a bit different than my normal handles.

Damn head cold! Nothing more fun than a runny nose and sneezing while wearing a dust mask.

actually had enough time tonight I could have finished up the blade planks but found I was making some silly mistakes, I think if I kept going I was just going to keep making them so I quite and swept up a little instead. Anyone else get that feeling sometimes?

The fact it's cool as all get out didn't hurt either. ;)

I feel your pain. I have some days in the shop when everything I touch gets ruined. When that happens it's just best to put everything away for the day, and maybe go have a drink or something...

Thanks, Glenn, glad it's not just me :)

Soudns fun, John, it's good some of you live so close to each other

Tomorrow?!?! Your picking the raffle winner tomorrow? I guess I can wait another day, even though I did loose a little sleep last night fantasizing about winning.

Well thanks for the chance either way.

Question for the JK fans, as this is really about the only place I talk knives/blades with anyone.

I have never owned a Case pocketknife, and I was wondering if any Case fans could expound on the quality and draw that leads one to become a follower/fan of Case knives. I've researched the brand history, and I understand their business, but having only handled one Case knife in my life, and not recalling it well as it was years back, I just wanted to know what others thoughts were on them.

I like the allure of "your grandfather's pocketknife" and something you can hand down that was made with pride in the USA, but I just didn't know if anyone had anything more than that to say about them. Blade quality? Build quality? Etc..? I'm considering buying one just to try them out, but didn't know if there were suggestions on models or if they were worth the time.

Thanks in advance.

(I also didn't know if I should start another thread on this, so I just put it here)

Case knives are hit or miss. I've always only bought them when I could actually handle them, that way I'm sure to get a good one. Go ahead and start a new thread on them, that way we can post pictures.

CASE KNIVES....an American icon
huge selection, USA made, usually excellant quality. Agree with John, inspect the knife you are buying for fit and finish.

Are there better choices for Traditional Pocket Knives made in USA?
....GEC is, perhaps, superior Quality, but much more spendy
Bear & Sons can be comparable, but quality control may be suspect, look at the exact one you are buying before sayiny yes.
Buck, see above.
My choice is Schrade, when they were made in USA, but you have to buy them on the secondary market, there are still a lot of new in the box USA Schrades out there and the Schrade Old Timers are the Carbon steel blades while Schrade Uncle Henry brand is your stainless option.

Back to Case..........love them also!

I've had a few, there about the most common type of traditional folder I think. Certainly are around here. Also I think a lot of people feel they are the 'best' for price to quality ration still being made. It's good, not save up expensive normally, andthwy are easy to find. Plus they have a clear tang stampsystem which I think attra ts a lot of people. Knife fNs tend to like knife history both the one they study and the one they'll pass on.
