The "Whatever" Thread

Tomorrow is a holiday so I'm enjoying a glass of Woodford Reserve over ice with a splash of 7-Up for color. I know John appreciates a good bloody mary and I was wondering what the rest of you enjoy when you're in the mood for a drink.

Mostly Irish Whiskey for me (Jameson) or a single malt Scotch if I'm feeling flush. Though my wife recently brought home some Gosling's Black Seal Bermuda Black Rum on a whim. I am not a fan of rum as a rule but this one is pretty nice as a sipping drink with just a bit of ice - not an Añejo but pretty nice nonetheless. I still prefer the whiskey.

Gosling's black seal mixes VERY well with ginger ale, especially the stronger/sharper ones.

My drink of choice is bourbon, since before the "cool" kids starting drinking it. For an inexpensive bottle that I don't mind if my wife cooks with (her bourbon apple pie is ridiculous) and I'm willing to share with anyone, I like Jim Beam Black. A splash of water or Sprite and I'm good. But for a real drink my personal favorite is Booker's.

Nearly any beer I can't see through, and some I can.

Also Jack and oj. Sometimes Jack and Coke.

University has already closed its campus for tomorrow because of inclement weather. Looks like I get a holiday as well after all.

Good lord, I am SO done with all this snow. Spent most of Saturday shoveling my father-in-law's roof and cutting pathways around his house. Of course, he is in Florida right now for the winter.

Then I get to come home and take care of my own property. Oh yeah, my parents still need to be plowed out. I was asleep by 9pm Saturday. I haven't seen the inside of my shop for almost 2 weeks...

BTW, I am a cheap date. I enjoy a Yuengling or 2 on occasion, and sometimes the "Captain" hangs out at my house.

Laphroaig. When I can find it I prefer the Cask Strength but the 10 year old is excellent too. I had a bottle of 30 year old and it was ridiculously smooth and tasty. I day I will get some 40 year old.

I got some Sierra Nevada beers this weekend. Ruthless Rye is my favorite but Blindfold is really freaking good.

Beer is my most common beverage of choice. Mainly an ale fan, IPAs at the top of that list. If its firewater I crave, that is almost universally bourbon and neat. I do enjoy cocktails on occasion and like Old Fashioned, Manhattans or other whiskey concoctions with a Gibson, Gimlet or Martini thrown in when I am feelin fancy.

My wife is a big Buffalo Trace fan as well as Eagle Rare ( we just finished a bottle of Eagle Rare 19 yr old).

I like Four Roses or Pappy. We usually have at least three or four varieties of bourbon on hand.

One recent addition to my list of favorites is actually a rum called Pyrat. It's imported by the same people that import Patron. Quite tasty straight or over a cube of ice.

Now you guys are talking my talk! I usually start with a good IPA. it's real easy up here in VT - tons of "craft" beers to choose from. i hate to admit it, but am a bit of a beer-snob now. oh well, i like what i like.

After a beer (or 3), i move to Mt. Gay (rum) and coke.

if i can't find Mt. Gay at a bar, i will do the ol' standby of jack & coke. everyone has jack.

my buddies are big bourbon fans, so i dabble in that as well.

btw...for all you bourbon guys, try this sometime....a bourbon, a piece of pecan pie, and a slice of cheddar cheese. just do it.

I'll have a jack and coke if given the choice myself. Beers next on the list but I'm not overly picky. Tonight its the contents if this mysterious mason jar my neighbour gave me. Apple pie he tells me. :)

I have seen those before, but hate to buy a six pack unless I'm sure I'll like. The local beer store has the option to make your own 6 pack, so if those are ever up for grabs, I will give them a shot.
