Yawn, back at work again.
I can't wait for 1630 EST to come aorund so I can go and get my stripping done and my patina on my BK9.
So excited, I already have a design for the patina in my head. I think it'll look drop dead gorgous.

This is for the new guy ;)
LMAO I wish we had tactical nap time on our 12 hour shifts.
We do get recess! Every 2 hours an air/walk/smoke break for up to 15 minutes haha!

You guys are killing me with these jokes! :D

In general really. Reading and surfing would be the main uses.

Hey Trade,

The ipad may have the edge in some categories, but the lower cost of the Kindle is hard to ignore - especially if it's being used primarily for reading and surfing. We've been using macs for decades (?) and over the last few years switched over to droid OS products. We're impressed. Are you running a bunch of macs at home? That might also influence your decision as there'll be easier (?) integration between all the machines, but even this is less of an issue than it's often made out to be.

Full disclosure: We have mac desktops and laptops but our phones and tablets are all running the Android OS. We're happy.

What's the ultimate price diff?

Breaks every 2 hours? Your making this TOO easy LMAO

Fire guard duty or CQ duty for us was 24 hours straight and we ate at that desk.

But still for me it was pretty easy going because of my MOS. I only had CQ duty once after my training.. and thats because someone paid me to take their shift.

But i was on call 24 hours a day and 5 days a week and my days off from being on call was still work days... So that sucked sometimes.

We didnt have "breaks" except for lunch... But i could just walk away and smoke a cigarette or take a breather at almost any time... Unless i had a radar all opened up and running diagnostics on it or something. But that only happened maybe once a week...

CQ sucked, we did 24s too.
Haven't done fireguard duty yet.
And hey it sounds like you had a lot of fun!

Google Nexus 7. Serious hardware, no cell option, wi-fi only. But as far as tablets go, kicks ass.

Yea my wife would agree. She didnt even start using her Ipad very often until the nexus 7 stopped holding a charge... And that took over a year of being used every single day for hours... Before my kids had their own tablets they would play with her nexus 7 while the wife was at work as well... So it stayed on a LOT.

Funny thing is, the Army got nap time, maid service, Playstation time, and conjugal visits during their commissioned officer training, while none of the other branches did. In contrast, of the AF, Army, and Navy's commissioned officer training, from my wife's experiences and those of her classmates in the other branches, the Air Force had by far the LEAST time for naps, or sleep of any kind.

We made a lot of fun of the guy in the Army, since his maid woke him up from naps on a fairly regular basis while he was at his commissioned officer training. The above joke actually applies, just not to the branch referenced in the joke, evidently.

Yea man i honestly loved most of it. And I miss it all the time. Even after i got hurt and they wanted to med board me out i tried to stay in. Now i havent worked in years and spend most my days half bored, hell these days id PAY to take a CQ duty LMAO Just to hang out with some of the guys and bull$hit around with them.

I got one as well. Like it pretty well so far. Had it for about a year. Another friend had a lot of trouble with hers (but not enough to exchange it, evidently). They're on sale now for 150 on groupon though.

LMAO!!!!! How many Army officers did you talk to that said thats true? And where was this officer training held at?

There is a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference in a Army soldier and an Army Officer though. There is a huge difference in an officer and a soldier period.

I have been stationed with or spent time with Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines... The ones that have it the hardest from my own experience is the Marines. Plain and simple. No question about it.

But I talked to several guys straight from West Point. the first year or 2 of plebe life sounded nothing like what you mention. But i didnt personally go through officer training so i dont know from experience.

I dont use either... Or cell phones for that matter... I use skype for a phone and a desktop for my tablet....

BUT.. Both my kids have Kindle Fire HDs and my wife has an ipad, ipad mini, and a Nexus 7.... She prefers the nexus 7 to all of them... Im not sure all the reasons though as i dont use them, but i know she wore the battery out the nexus, and is thinking of selling her regular ipad to a friend at work and getting a new Nexus 7 instead of just replacing the battery.... Or she already sold the Ipad.. Im not sure i know just Monday she was talking about selling it though and keeping the Mini... And i asked if she liked the mini better.. she likes it better than the regular Ipad but still prefers the nexus 7 to them all.

Im not much help...... I hate trying to type on small touch screens.. I type a lot and they just suck as far as im concerned for typing... Although i do like the newer swype feature on some of them.. a lot easier for me... Still prefer a full keyboard though.

Which specific models are you looking at?

I see how it is... I said Nexus 7 as the first answer to his question.. But i guess it doesnt matter unless Mike says its good to go LMAO

J/K :D

Hopefully me! Hopefully... I want to do it out of a crazy steel (Elmax or CPM-145) though so it might not work for me... To be fair, even just doing it in 1095 I'd be happy.

Working with pretty much any steel in a properly annealed state really isn't that different from one to the next. Yes, higher alloyed steels like Elmax are a bit more difficult to work with, but when doing one or two small blades you'll never know the difference.

The big deal is HT... and neither Elmax, CPM-154 nor 1095 should even be messed with unless you have some pretty serious equipment. If you want to keep it all in-house and just do the austenize in the BBQ grill/quench in canola oil/temper in the kitchen oven thing, just stick with 1080 or 1084.

Or... make it out of whatever the heck you like, and talk to a pro about into including it with one of his HT batches.

I got sent home from work guys, having a bad fever and blury vision, I really hope my gums aren't infected.
I just sprayed my BK9 with paint stripper!
Crossing my fingers seeing how well it'll turn out.
Longest part that'll take is the patina.
Can't wait.
