jideta , what camera is that? 120/220, or one of the many roll films no longer available? Looks like a grand old high end camera.

Jefferson Airplane had a song called Plastic Fantastic Lover. That's traditional almost to the point of antiquity.Sorry no...my fishing days are behind me.
On the other hand two weeks ago I was on an overnight charter to Moloka'i and my 11 year old nephew got a 111 lbs marlin!
I of course had my cheap Victorinox with me:

Not exactly traditional but plastic fantastic for sure
I know what you mean.View attachment 1382828 For some reason I get the most pleasure from buying Case and Victorinox products, although I do own a few GECs, Opinels, and Rough Riders.

I enjoy all sorts of knives, from different points of the price spectrum. Once I’ve shelled out the money I no longer really think about it.I get equal joy from my Case knives and GEC knives.
I like GECs very much, but due to their marketing policy even used ones tend to be rather expensive compared to Case.I get equal joy from my Case knives and GEC knives.

Measuring 3 3/8 inches, with the ring, a Shapleigh"s EVERY BOY and a Shapleigh"s GENERAL UTILITY. And notice the closed backs. I wonder if the guarantee still applies? Have a Thoroughly Thrifty Thursday! T-A
Nice!I have a number of Okapi knives, and while I respect the tradition of the Ring-Opener style, I don't particularly like them for carry, preferring the non-locking versions, such as this Biltong Knife, which was very kindly gifted to me by @r8shellI hope she doesn't think I'm being cheeky carrying it for Thrifty Thursday
Like the other Okapis, it has a lot of character, with great 'peasant' style, and a cool blade stamp I think
The steel isn't the best, but it still gets sharp
I'm going to enjoy carrying it today, I might even show it to the South African butcher in the market

Nice!
For a while these were available on the big shopping site, and I got several. I gave some as gifts.![]()
A few I got seemed to be a newer version than these, with a different blade steel (stainless?), and the chisel grind going all the way up to the spine. My dad really liked his, but mentioned on several occasions he prefers something with a point, so I made him this:![]()
He gave the un-modified one to his friend who thought it was cool.
MY thrifty carry for today is this cheap Pakistan Barlow, which has a surprising amount of character and has pretty much been my constant companion since it arrived a couple of weeks ago. The bone on the side not pictured here has some color variation and a hairline crack, which gives it a well-worn look. I’m not a fan of stainless, but this is not polished, at least, and pretty sharp once I finally got the wire edge off it. It is a little thick behind the edge - I took some sandpaper to the pen blade to redo the bevel a little but it still needs some work. I had to take a file to the pen blade kick because it rode too high and got in the way of the main blade’s nail nick. Anyway, I feel like it has already provided me with 8 bucks worth of tinkering and amusement, and it just goes to show, you never know what will strike your fancy.![]()
I bought a whole bunch of Okapis while they were easily available - most as re-handling and modification projects - but I did keep one each of their current offerings un-modified, just to have the full set:That's interesting Tom, I'd seen that there were stainless models, but didn't realise there was a difference in the grinds. Nice mod on your dad's knifeHere's another that someone bought me back from a trip to France
