Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

Carrying a mid 80s Camillus Jack Knife (#18) today. Less than $15.00 back in 1984.

No, you're not going to be clearing any trails or erecting any shelters.
Still, for basic sharp object work, I'd buy another.
Main gripe is those finger groves 'force' your hand into a position but it's not uncomfortable.
For less than ten bucks you can't go wrong!

I like Barlows. I paid $5 for this Kutmaster & $3 for the old Schrade at a flea market. What a ripoff!:)

They both have a little blade wobble, which I can probably fix; and need the edges worked on. Once that's done that, they have another fifty of so years left on them.

I always like seeing the Fairmount knives. The town of Fairmount is just east of the town of Camillus, the home of the now defunct Camillus Cutlery.
That is interesting.
Thanks for the history lesson.
I can say that it is a well constructed knife.:thumbsup:

jideta jideta , what camera is that? 120/220, or one of the many roll films no longer available? Looks like a grand old high end camera. :)

My "thrifty" carry this week is a pair of (now discontinued) Rough Rider "A Stroke of Luck" Series. The RR1062 Canoe and RR1057 large stockman. :D
I also have a Marbles MR278 "Demo" knife/"GI Utility knife" in my pocket, of course. ($6.99 with tax and shipping?)
If memory serves, the canoe was around $8 or $9 when I got it, with the stockman around $11 or $12.
My "expensive" thrifty knife (I think it was $29.99 plus free shipping, for the first run of them) is a SK Blades SFO "Smoke Jumper" Buck 110LT.

I've never owned one, but they seem like a well-made knife.
Thanks John,
I think they're well-made...and underrated, but I've never spent more than $40.00 on a pocket knife, so it's all relative I guess. I know they're 1095 steel and were Colonial's top of the line knife. I have a couple from the 1980s and they compare favorably to the few Camillus, Schrades, and Imperials that I have from that era...again all less than $40.00.

I had an Imperial like that (not the exact same model, but similar) when I was a kid.

I’ve been carrying an Opinel (carbon) for most of the past week. Probably my favorite thrifty traditional knife.

(That’s not the Opinel I’ve been carrying. That’s a No. 6, and I’ve been carrying a No. 7 this week. But I don’t have a lot of pics of my
Opinels, so that one will have to suffice.)
