Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

TmxigP1.jpg

I've been enjoying this new to me Opinel #9 Inox. I think it is the 10th or so Opinel ive purchased.

Cheap, but so enjoyable.

Made to be cheap and cheap when bought old.
This one keeps fascinating me.

The IKCo stamp should make it older than Imperial. The painted handle should make it older than the celluloid slip cover handles, and yet it looks almost untouched. Something must have touched it a bit to wear off some high points of paint.

Bush button sliders; they're neither folders nor fixed-blades, but they're certainly traditional and fit well under the heading "Thrifty".

The black one and the red double-ended knives are marked DODSON CHICAGO with a patent number. The pocket clip bears the name ARTISAN. The other three seem to share a slightly different slide technology, with one (cream-colored) clearly marked GITS NIFE. Four of the five are advertising knives, intended as giveaways to valued clients or customers. Thanks for watching! T-A

Scrolling through the thread titles, I thought this was "Thirsty Thursday" (when the beer is half price at the ball park!)! Wishful thinking, I guess.

But I will probably change out my Thiers knife this evening for my Opinel No. 8--about as economical as they come: $15 new.

I had something else in mind but I’ll just follow Vince’s lead.2B7ACDBA-00EA-43D5-8849-6B825ABE70F7.jpeg
