Ti/Carbon Fiber S90v Military sale

Mine has been a bit chippy so far. Though I haven’t heard others mention anything similar about this specific model. I’m hoping a new edge I put on will act differently than the factory edge. Aside from that, this thing is the slickest military I’ve ever owned.

Actual chipping or carbide tearout? S90v really isn’t all that chippy to be honest.

MIght depend on your use. I would say mine has been chippy too, but it might not be a popular thing to say here :)

I don’t doubt that it can happen. Can you take a picture of the chips? I’d be very curious to see them. It might help us figure out what’s going on.

I have an s90v blade that has a full height flat grind that is 9 thou behind the edge. It is THIN. It’s also 62hrc. Never had it chip although i have had carbide tearout.

Different cross sections on the blades will perform differently of course.

I’ve Cut card board for days , cut rope , cut some pine and never had S90v chip like that .

Every steel will chip doesnt matter what steel just a matter of material to be cut. As long as it does not chip on the things listed here, its all good to me:thumbsup: Many people like M390 and I do too. But I feel S90v is even better.

Ok then it must be your sharpening angle . Better adjust your edge pro back to 30 degrees o_O
Or lean your leather strop a little less :D
Factory edge.

I thought posting anything perceived as negative would result in this. At least Sal didn’t chew me out for criticism this time :)

Anyway, for me, Cruwear, M4 and 52100 perform much better.

Cheers!

Running folks out for making critical comments through the actual use of their knives is just counterproductive for all of us.

With 9% vanadium content, owners of S90V must be very careful as to what they cut. This metal ought to devour cardboard without chipping issues but it ain't M4!

I must have missed the cardboard/paper only warning. Noted.

No criticism here just questions mixed with a little fun to lighten it up a tad .
No worries here just stating never had that issue with my applications and obviously doesn’t apply to everyone else including you .

Easy guys not running anyone out .
Are we feeling a little sensitive on this fine Sunday ?

I would rather hear honesty than the alternative. S90v doesn’t have some of the elements that s110v has that decrease embrittlement, so one would assume it would be “chippy.” Even though it is more likely to chip, it is still a “high end steel”, used on several Taichung models that cost twice as much or more. I wonder if these latter suffer the same chipping, or if the steel stock used is much thicker and thus less noticeable.

Even s30v is pretty chippy for me, unless I’m careful when cutting. It would follow that s90v would be at least as chippy as s30v. Vanadium carbides are very hard, yet very small, so ideally the chipping would be at the micro level. It’s way more brittle than cruwear, which has a lot less chromium as well.
