I'd like that BM 940. Thanks for the chance. My worst cut was with a new BUCK...and I was demonstrating to my boys to NEVER cut TOWARD yourself. Took a while for my thumb to heal; some of the nerves never will.

The member above me doesn't deserve the knife because his user name can be rearranged to spell "Dozen Nays," and nobody that negative needs a 940 😜

Warm feeling handle but the knife did NOT slice well. The edge was too curvy to keep the cutting linear.

I purchased this knife at a local "Frontiers Day" event. Actually a very well made looking knife with a hand made sheath. Picked it up for around $40 and thought it was a steal. Until I used it some and tried to sharpen it. Edge literally chips off as you try and sharpen it. Never seen anything like it. Bad heat treat I suppose. Thanks for the chance!

This one time my girlfriend bought me a knife for my birthday that actually had the name "Bear Grylls" printed right on it! In spite of the gift, I proposed to her anyway. I never did open the package and we lived happily ever after.

Dumbest thing I did with a knife was when I was a teenager. I was trying to cut into a belt so the middle would be wide enough for a belt sheath, the knife went through the belt and sliced my hand. I have no feeling in my left thumb 10 years later, needless to say I felt really stupid.

The dumbest thing I ever did with a knife was to try and use the blade of a folder as a pry bar to open a wooden crate that had been nailed shut and snapped the blade right off. I knew at the time it probably wasn't a good idea but went ahead anyway and confirmed my suspicions and stupidity... That was pretty dumb!

Thanks for doing this awesome GAW!

The worst knife I ever purchased was a Milano assisted opening stiletto. This was when I was first getting into knives and I was about 15. I was in Blue Ridge with my family and as we were walking through a store downtown, it caught my eye. I thought to myself, "hey that looks pretty cool?" So I bought it and one other cheap pocket knife. Within an hour of getting back to the cabin, I had flipped it a good 100 times already. Then something went wrong. The liner lock was bent beyond repair. The knife would no longer open. I was devastated. But the blade didn't go to waste. I took it apart and drilled the blade to a stick and made a spear.

The dumbest thing i did with a knife was use a mass produced kukri, made by cold steel as a tent peg driver for my GI tent, the aluminum stakes were too much, in combination with a hard ground, and the knife snapped at the knuckle of the blade. i was un injured, but boy, not by much.

Dumbest thing I ever did with a knife was when I was 10 or 11. I stabbed my SAK into a picnic table with the large blade. It of course folded on my pinky. Never stabbed a slip joint into anything again. That was my first knife. Wish I knew what happened to it. I do still have the scar almost 25 years later though.

The dumbest thing I did with a knife was on a canoe trip with my Dad and my Brother. I was 13 and we were a day's canoe ride (plus portages) from our pickup spot, without cell service. I was sitting bored and pulled out my sharp $15 bait knife and decided to use it to slash the top off of a dandelion. All was fine and good, except I forgot that my left hand was behind the dandelion.... ended up with a pretty good cut (still have the scar 8 years later), but it could've been much worse considering the lack of emergency services....

Thanks for the GAW!

The Manix 2 is the first pocket knife I ever spent more than $20 on. I loved the thing, and truly had it with me every day. I thought of it as an indestructible tool. Long story short, I broke the tip off of it by using it as a scraper in an attempt to defrost my freezer. Stupid, right? By far the dumbest thing I've ever done with a pocket knife. Remarkably I think that's also the only knife I've ever broken.

THANK YOU for this generous GAW.

I'll post all three reasons in my entry.

Velitrius should be taken out of the giveaway since he is the first person to try and deny one of us getting that awesome blade (not really, it appears he knows the other member :D)

Worst knife I ever bought was a cheap Chinese made "survival knife" that came with a nylon sheath and a fire steel. After trying to make some feather sticks and light some tinder, I realized it was junk. I threw it in the trash so no pics of the actual knife. It was like this one in the pics.

I guess it could also be said that it was one of the best knives I ever bought (technically speaking). It's utter failure and lack of any real ability as a knife caused me to become educated and I now collect, own, and use multiple high quality brands, customs, and various steels and super steels. I even made knives myself for a short time and I'm now a pretty decent sheath maker. I've also made quite a few friends in the knife world and that's the best result.

Dumbest thing I ever did with a knife was try to untie some tight knots in some rope with the tip and back of the spine of a small lockback folder. In gripping the knife, my hand compressed the lock bar at the wrong moment and the knife closed with all that pressure. Cut my index finger down to the bone. Good thing it was a cheap, dull Chinese folder or I would be missing my trigger finger these days.

Dumbest thing I've ever done with a knife was while digging the heart out of a piece of sugar cane. Knife went through the sugar cane then into my palm and almost though the back of my hand. Got very lucky as it did no damage other than the puncture but it hurt like hell.

Well I have a story about a stupid thing I did with a knife. It was late one night and I wanted to test my blade's (zt 0350) ability to go through thin plywood. So I held the base of the sheet and drove the blade straight down through the wood then it split and the blade went straight into my thumb as it was at the base of the knife. And that has to have been the stupidest thing I have done with a blade.

The dumbest thing I ever did with a knife was to use it as a pry bar on a window when I locked myself out at camp. This was 20 years ago and it was one of those cool looking flea market knives that snapped in half as soon as I put a little pressure on it. The plus side was it turned me on to buying quality knives that I don't use as pry bars.
Thanks for the contest!

I'm a maker, right?

Well one day my friend helped me fix my truck, and I thanked him by giving him a knife I'd made (it's not letting me upload pics for some reason). What was the first thing he did? Throw it at his barn... about 47 times until it finally stuck in.

Giving a hand-made knife to my friend: one of the dumbest things I've ever done with a knife.

The dumbest thing I've ever done with a blade is cutting towards my self when I was younger. A nasty cut to the thumb taught me real fast.
Thanks for the chance!

Dumb knife story: I was breaking boxes down with my spyderco salt 1. Evidently i got it mixed up with the boxes. Next time I saw it was in the burn pile after the cardboard was burnt up. The knife was ruined. Not one of my better moments.

Dumbest thing I did with a knife, back in high school, had my SAK with me, when you could do that. We were reading Hamlet, was bored and stabbing the blade into the side of the desk, not really paying attention until....blade closed and sliced my middle finger right down the side to depth of the bone... Had to stand up and ask to go to nurse as I held my finger that was bleeding all over the place. Teacher was loss for words and just let me go without too much question. Did get a good talking to the next day when I had to explain what happened and show the stitches. Learned to pay attention when playing with sharp objects;)

Seems others have learned the hard way too but not sure it was learned during English class...

Thanks for the chance!
