Tomorrow's chopper sale and the random number generator

The sale will be in the main sale area of fixed blades for sale by maker, not the CPK sub.

And welcome to Blade Forums. Good bunch of knives you chose to go after. And love the screen name.
Thanks for the tip. I found the previous post by Nathan the Machinist in "KnifeMakers Market/For Sale: Fixed Blades" using your tip and took a look to see what to expect.

I bought a CPK Kephart from the bay a while back, and picked up an FK3 from a website this week. It hasn't arrived yet, but I had to pay a $250 premium to get my hands on one. Hopefully, with a little patience and luck, I can pick up a handful of CPKs here at normal prices. It will be fun to try.

Now, it's time to keep reading the stickies before 3 tomorrow, haha.

Hi,
I joined Bladeforums today because it seems to be the only way a person can pick up Carothers knives. I've been reading a bunch of FAQs here in the sub, and my understanding is that at 3PM EST tomorrow, there will be a new thread posted in the CPK sub and the people that post in it during the first minute have a chance to match the random numbers. Am I getting that right?

All I need to do is refresh in the CPK sub until a new post comes up, then enter it and post...what?

Sorry for the noob questions. This is a little bit confusing.
Welcome!

I am 100% okay with someone using a bot

Because that's what I would do in this situation

But I need to make this accessible for everyone including people who don't have bots

That was my prime motivating factor
Totally makes sense. I’ll probably sit this one out to hopefully allow someone else to get one.

Unless you do your sneaky drop of one special knife…….

No, Nathan has already posted the winning numbers. You just have to be lucky enough to have one of the winning post numbers when you participate in the sale thread.

What makes it random is that you can't predict where your post will fall in the continuum, and the winners are sure to include more than just the quickest entries.

“Caller #33 is going to win 4 tickets to the BeeGees this weekend!! Thanks for listening to 100.7.. The Buzzard!”

Back in those days you had to try and delay your call so you weren’t the first 😁

I am sorry that it complicates things, but I appreciate that you are trying to get your product into more hands (unique) directly. I have generally decided in the past to not bother with Friday sales and only deal with pre-orders or hope to get lucky with website sales. I may still not participate in Friday sales often, but ya'll caring about it only furthers my confidence in the CPK brand.

In the last Friday sale post Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist said "The random number generator will be biased towards the earlier posts" regarding today's sale. This graph shows distance between prime winners that visualizes the bias. Clever!

As everybody knows, the Prime Number Theorem implies that the average gap between the first n primes is approximated by the natural logarithm of n.

My original plan was overridden, (without malice or heartburn), as Nate wanted to bias the selections toward those who were able to respond quickest when the bell rings. So I have stepped aside.

The prime number method is a brilliant idea, in my opinion, but it's not what I envisioned when I was first recruited by Nate to run the random generator to encompass and select from, (without any pre-programmed bias), all of those members who would respond to the thread within the first minute or so.

I still think it's an improvement on the way things were run previously, and hopefully it will help get more product into the hands of those who do not have the fastest connections, nor know all the devices or "tricks" to increase their odds...(of which I am personally ignorant).

Good luck, fellas.
