My original plan was overridden, (without malice or heartburn), as Nate wanted to bias the selections toward those who were able to respond quickest when the bell rings. So I have stepped aside.
The prime number method is a brilliant idea, in my opinion, but it's not what I envisioned when I was first recruited by Nate to run the random generator to encompass and select from, (without any pre-programmed bias), all of those members who would respond to the thread within the first minute or so.
I still think it's an improvement on the way things were run previously, and hopefully it will help get more product into the hands of those who do not have the fastest connections, nor know all the devices or "tricks" to increase their odds...(of which I am personally ignorant).
Good luck, fellas.
Yeah, I'm pretty well aware of how it works...as well as the psychology. This pre-programmed method is more fair than you might think. The first winner is post #3 so those with fast connections and device 'tricks' will be hesitant to go for pole position as achieving it guarantees failure. (you've got to avoid being #1 or #2). You also get better odds being early, so there's a tradeoff. The game will slow down the 'quick draws' making a more level playing field.
It will be interesting to see how fast members will adjust their strategy!

Probably the move would be to wait a 1/2 second delay
But then the problem is, you know the other fella's doing that too
So maybe you do a one second delay
But then the problem is, you know the other fella's doing that too
So maybe you do a 5 second delay
But then the problem is, you know the other fella's doing that too
So maybe you do a 5-minute delay
But then the problem is, that's completely retarded
Even if you're at the end of the first minute, you still have a 30% chance of winning. Much better than before. So, the end result is basically the same, fastest group of buyers wins. No change in results for the gross majority.
Only if you were in the small sub-group who always just miss out. Again, the majority will see no improvement.Much better than before.
Only regret. The winning strategy is to not play at all. Agita = 0
And those who don't cheat.Disagree, fast sub-group advantage is only 1-2 seconds which is about how long they'll delay to make sure they're not #2. So, those not in the fast sub-group should simply go as fast as they can, then they'll be right in there with the fast ones. That's a big improvement.
That's only on my good days.Someone's a real Debby Downer lately.
