Toughest Folder You own and why

5.11 first responder. The thing is an absolute beast. Still have never felt a folding knife as heavy as it. It's lockup is like vault.

My Cold Steel Rajah 1 is a great little chopper for yardwork and such. I have a couple John Greco folders that beat out my other more expensive and pretty production folders for just basic work. They're rough in the finish department (no coating or anything) but they work, and since they're thick 3/16 carbon tool steel, they're pretty tough for their size.

Don't know if I own a "tough" folder.
I have a spyderco military.
I also have an Imperial knife (think buck 110 design) that I bought new with a 25 year warranty. I edc'ed it for well over a decade, the warranty has expired but I still have the lockblade

For me I'd say it is my Ontario XM-1 simply based on feel and thickness. Built like a rock.

Thanks jack!

So many times I was so so close to buy a CS Recon, but I never did it because it has a 4 in blade (4in = 10.16cm > legal length in Portugal - 10cm) :grumpy:

Please PM me, if you can. I have some questions about knives in Portugal.

Thanks

As a computer guy I cant tell you how much I appreciate that last picture. However A shotgun does work better! I can confirm that first hand! HAHAHA I might need a AL or a Recon. The steel is a little bit of a turn off...But I have had a sog in the past with AUS8A and it did pretty well even though I didnt like the knife much after that. Some writes up rip it hard. Was always under the impression that S30V was the best folder steel period.

I had older SOG with AUS 8 and that blade would not hold the edge , but on this blade CS did very good job . I am impressed .

For Production knives something like these.

Ankerson you got me thinkin I need another folder! This one looks like the tank will fit the blades outside my edc and it is certainly priced right!

There is something about the heat treat that CS puts on the AUS8a that makes it a step above most imo...I like 154CM alot too, s30v from my experience is a little too brittle, great edge retention though.

Modern folders have their place-as simple cutting tools. I don't believe in "hard use" folders-if you need a knife for rough use, get a fixed blade-it's not worth spending hundreds of dollars on fancy materials and locks that attempt to mimick the durability of a fixed blade knife. After having SOG Flashes and Tridents catasrophically fail, I've focused on less expensive practical slicers-Opinels, Kabar Doziers and Warthogs, Svords, a handful of more classic/traditional folder designs, and the 20 dollar RAT1. The RAT1 is an undeniable practical tool. That Aus8 is tough stuff, and combines easy maintenance with crazy hair splitting edges and solid edge retention. Ergonomics are horrendous, but if you can get past that it makes for a heck of a backup outdoors blade.

one of my harsey t3s, i would think would be up there, the liner is thicker than benchmade griptilian blade...

i also would have to consider my black rhino or my american lawman (also have an ultimate hunter, talk about a knife that was so close yet so far away)....

ZT 0500 definitely. I've abused mine much more than any of my other knives and it still emerges asking for more.
