Toughest Folder You own and why

My toughest folder is my ZT 0301. Why?...Because it is built like a tank, and with good materials.

+1

My ZT0300 is just that... a TANK!!!. That would be the folder I'd grab in a TEOTWAWKI/zombie apocolypse type situations. I even EDC it on weekends from time to time and the size and weight aren't so bad.

First: XM-18
Second: Sng
Third: ZT0300
Fourth: Umnumzaan. Whoops, don't own this one anymore.

All four of these knives use the same pivot/thumbstud frame interlock. The reasons are obvious-ultimate pivot strength.

The XM-18 is the only folder I've ever had that I don't worry about breaking. I even (lightly) pry with it sometimes.

The ZT's are tough, but they are pretty heavy, and bulky. Anyone can make a strong knife like that, (and many do). The trick is to make a tough knife that is light and relatively slim. The Sng is both, but it hurts my hand because it is almost too slim. The XM-18 is a bit wider but far more comfortable to use.

Same as Ankerson, would have to be my Demko AD-10. Here are a fews pictures of it, and side by side with my ESEE RC-5

This is my toughest folder....

I've used it to remove a battery from my truck, cut many feet of wire, open many a beer, saw down a pine tree in my back yard, file the head of a nail off, open a can of dog-food, and even trim my beard. :)

I guess I'd have 3 different kinds of hard-use folders:

1. The used, abused, and retired
2. The current user that's abused
3. Ones that I KNOW I can trust 100%

For #1 I have my 2003 Emerson Commander. It's done light chopping, batoning, slicing, opening cans, gone fishing, been to the beach several times, struck a ferro rod probably 500 times and made 2 actual fires :o. This thing just kept coming back for more. It's not carried anymore but it sure as hell is my go to knife for keeping my current EDC's in perty condition.

For #2 I have 3 knives that I use and rotate on duty and on my off time: The 2010 Cold Steel Ak-47, the original Cold Steel American Lawman (with steel liners), and my newest addition the Benchmade 806D2 AFCK. The 2010 CS AK-47 is an amazing knife. It's stabbed all sorts of things and the aluminum pommel (aka pinky guard) is great for window breaking too :D The wave feature is OK and that's because I have a 4/5 chance of waving it open the first time. The CS American Lawman is incredible.....nuff said. Demko got it right and I'm very glad that it's at an affordable price range for me to be able to enjoy a smaller version of his custom. That knife has been to hell and back since I became an Officer and even before that on campouts and fishing trips. The 806D2 AFCK is a great knife that I plan on putting through the ropes on duty.

For #3 I would say that I can 100% trust the CS American Lawman (with steel liners) for anything I can think of doing with a knife. I would love the custom version, just not at my pay grade right now.

Cool.

Congrats, awesome knife. :D :cool::thumbup:

I can't wait for mine! I wish you guys would stop showing those pics.

Hey Jim, when you gonna do a hard use on the Demko Custom? I wouldn't blame you if you never do, but it's only wood, right? :p

Nope. :D

No need to beat on a Custom knife for no reason when I already did the AL and Recon 1 etc. The Demko is a lot stonger than either one of those.

I don't blame you, just kidding. I have a brand new XM-24 sitting in the box right now. They're supposed to be bomb proof (extreme hard use) as well. I've never even carried it...:o

I do use it and carry it a lot, but no need to prove what is a no brainer. :)

Probably my Byrd Crossbill...got a HEST folder on reserve.

Mostly if i need a tough folder...I reach for a fixed blade.

That's for sure. My new date for my Demko custom is end of Dec. or 1st of Feb so it won't be long now. Is the lock on your custom a lot harder to open than a new Recon 1 which I just got this week per your advice?

I love the new Recon 1 very light and better than the Ultra-Lock version, those Demko locks take a lot of pressure to open though.

There is a HUGE difference better the factory CS knives and the Demko Customs.

And I mean HUGE difference.

You will see once you get yours.

I recently placed a order on a new custom Demko, due this summer. A new top secret design ;) I will tell you that, it will put every other "Heavy Duty Folder" to shame. Including the Super LawMan

My 1973 Buck 112 that I've had since I was 12 years old. Still use it all the time and the blade still locks tight in all directions.

My toughtest is G10 kershaw Tyrade, thick blade, thick liners, A/O and G10 handles.

The toughest folder I own is my Chinook 3. I'm not sure that I need a folder this tough though.
