Got my tying band. I don't know about using it on tubes, though. I'll probably go for the old kerfed aperture ploy on this one.

The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is ready to order! See this thread for details:
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/bladeforums-2024-traditional-knife.2003187/
Price is $300 $250 ea (shipped within CONUS). If you live outside the US, I will contact you after your order for extra shipping charges.
Order here: https://www.bladeforums.com/help/2024-traditional/ - Order as many as you like, we have plenty.
I usually double them back, and put a small steel pin, or dowel through, to hold them in place. Or plug them with a small steel ball. It depends on the diameter of the tube thoughGot my tying band. Nope, you were right the first time.I usually double them back, and put a small steel pin, or dowel through, to hold them in place. Or plug them with a small steel ball. It depends on the diameter of the tube though
Edit: Sorry Jer, you're talking about the pouch?!![]()
I'd avoid a slit Jer, when you tension the rubber it could run. Alcohol gel is useful for making it stretch (to accommodate a ball for example). Another way might be to attach the rubber using leather tabs. I guess it depends on the particular slingshot to a large extentNope, you were right the first time.
I'm thinking a slit to slip the stretched tube through, and a plug to keep it from pulling out, as you say. Or enlarging the holes enough to get the tubes through without a slit might be better. Whatever looks easier on the day.
CoolI enlarged the holes.
Getting there.

Is that an Imperial Boy's Knife Jer?

Thanks and yes.
I'll just fold over the standing ends and whip with the band-binding band. See if that works. (The band-binding band arrived on time(, and the guitar stand arrived early.))
Nice work Jer, and a cool pic
NiceI'm waiting on a Wasp Stinger to arrive. Made to Chicago a week ago. Hoping it will arrive in the near future. Ordered a red one.
Gamekeeper Pocket Poacher, Ghost Edition.
I'm reminded of the movie Boogie Nights. "Those are great names!"Gamekeeper Bloodstopper
I was ordering a knife anyway, so I ordered a pack of 20 bands/pouches. I think they'll be long enough, though it's awfully hard to understand a seller's description these days. (Maybe so it's harder to claim the goods aren't as described)I find most pre-made bands too short for me, I guess if you're selling them, you make the rubber go as far as possible![]()

I know what you mean Jer!I was ordering a knife anyway, so I ordered a pack of 20 bands/pouches. I think they'll be long enough, though it's awfully hard to understand a seller's description these days. (Maybe so it's harder to claim the goods aren't as described)
I reckon a lot of it depends on the strength of the bands, the strength of the user, and whether or not they have tennis elbow!I saw somewhere that band length should be one fifth of your draw length, which I can't believe. I'll prowl the simple shot tutorials.
Thanks mateI hope you're out slinging shot again soon.
The band length depends on the stretch ratio. If the bands have a 5:1 stretch ratio then 1/5 your draw length would be right.that band length should be one fifth of your draw length, which I can't believe.
LOL!I still find it hard to believe that - after 40 years - you guys have me working on slingshots again ....
3060, in case you wonder, and I like them a little longer than normal (6.5 ft arm span).

I may continue to eyeball them with glassy eyes. The band length depends on the stretch ratio. If the bands have a 5:1 stretch ratio then 1/5 your draw length would be right.![]()
Hope it works outHarvested with my machete. Box elder. Looks promising.
