Traditional Knives & Slingshots

I was walking in the woods near my home this morning, and after about the 3rd face-full of spider web, I decided to cut a switch to clear my path with. I saw a fallen beech branch which seemed like a likely resource for that, and when I got to it I found this:

Here it is trimmed and cleaned up:

I am trying to decide if I want to strip the bark off it and carve it some, or leave it natural.
