Traditional Knives & Slingshots

I used the Kabar to shorten the bands on the Scout.

I hit the ball two times and the string once with the Torque, and finally hit the ball once with the Scout and thought I'd stop there.
I must have had, oh, two or three times that many misses. 😁

It looks like I've had my camera set to I'm not sure what instead of jitter control. Photos should be better after this.
They both arrived today, the Hammer one day early and the Axiom Champ two days early!

Nice Jer, let us know how you get on with them  I have a few Occularis frames, including this one I was gifted by Paul Jakeywax31 Jakeywax31 :)

I had both ends of the band tied on at one point, but I had the inside of one band captured under the capture wraps. Good thing I had a roll of tying tape in addition to the three feet that came with the slingshot.
I think I'm going to like the Occularis attachment system just fine.

Once you get used to it, it's really not that hard, I don't think Jer, a lot easier than tying trout flies! :D Having said that, I can see why people prefer alternatives, it's certainly a lot faster to change bands out in the woods. I have a Chinese slingshot that just uses small rubber 'O' rings, which are quick to attach. The Occularis system works well, but you lose the square corner unfortunately, which I rather like

Here's a Pocket Poacher Occularis, which are pretty rare I think

I've got bits of that binding tape all over several floors.
I'm thinking I'll cut vertical kerfs in the fork-tips and stretch loops of the band-ends into the kerfs with small dowels in the bights. Similarly to the old ball bearings in the tube-ends ploy.

Have you considered this?

I don't have anything with a ball bearing stuffed in the end to secure the band.
Is that reliable, or is the ball bearing prone to working its way out during use over time?

I do have two with looped tubes that are secured like this.
To date, they have not worked lose enough in use for the cross piece to move.

I've done that different sling-shots Jer, but with that one, personally, I'd persevere with the band tying

Here's a Milbro, adapted with metal pins, rather than wooden dowels

I've got double tubes on that Milbro now, but here it is with flat bands

Yeah, that works well too, with single or double tube.

A bit of alcohol (or spit) helps the steel ball fit into the tube, but I've always had to cut the rubber to get them out again, they're very secure

Here's some heavy tubes, secured with tabs

I've made slingshots for the kids, where I've just taped the bands in place. This tape is from a specialist slingshot store, but you could improvise.

Rubber 'O' rings work on this Chinese folding slingshot

Thanks, guys. I won't do anything desperate right away. Sawing two straight lines in the right place and long enough but not too long would also be a challenge anyway.

[ordered some sticky slingshot tape, which should be more my speed, and a spool of the nasty little stuff, in case I feel like continuing to torture myself.]
