Traditional Knives & Slingshots

Thanks. I retied the band on the axiom champ all right.
Hitting that fork with the steel ball bearing makes me appreciate the grip on the hammer, how it keeps all my fingers nicely below the fork.
Yikes! Glad your fingers are OK Jer

Yes. Thinking about such things didn't improve my release much, either.

This thread has convinced me to buy a Daisy from our local Harbor Freight to see if you guys are really having all the fun.

I'll only be out 8.99.
While better than no slingshot, that daisy will have very heavy tube bands and those only throw heavy things decently, to really enjoy the hobby you owe it to yourself to try some flat bands. Feels very different and much easier to draw, I don’t enjoy shooting wrist rockets, and if only those were available I would have given up long ago never realizing how fun it can be.

You can take those heavy tubes off and put a set of flat bands on the daisy frame, I have done that, it works better that way, but still isn’t as fun to shoot as a different frame and band-set from the start.

Don’t get too hung up on aiming at first, it’s more instinctual, like throwing a ball. Focus more on drawing and releasing consistently like archery. Then you can dial in your point of impact.

I think you'll be OK Jer, I usually have my fingers near the fork tips, and I've only ever hit my hand once - which was enough! :D

Go for it, but BJE BJE gives good advice :)

I just tested the bands by pulling them, and they slipped right out of the lashings.
My one roll of slingshot sticky tape is actually on its way from China.
You can just use rubber bands Jer, the trick is to tighten them over the groove in the frame. Also, to make it neater, and more secure, you can turn the tail of the band back, on the last pass, and bind that in too. This Sparrow has had the same set of bands on, since I got it about 3 years ago, and it's been used loads. You probably just need to practice a little mate

I see many of you are already using simpleshot products, it’s great to see, Nathan is a nice guy and so helpful. For those that don’t know simpleshot.com has Instructional videos, all are excellent, he even has or had one on tying bands. You can call him for one on one help if needed also.
I haven’t been into it for years, but when I was, I found his website to be my go to for info and materials like pouches and bands.

Also for entertainment purposes, check out the big German guy on YouTube, joerg sprave I think, though I have certainly butchered the spelling. He builds crazy slingshots and it’s quite good for passing time and getting you interested in going out and shooting more.

I'll second all that! :D

Have you tried small castration rings to hold the bands on?
One of my acrylic(?) catapults from TEMU used those. Somewhat of a challenge to get on, but they worked great ... until one of the forks broke off the handle ... 🤬🤬🤬

I salvaged the band and castration rings. The broken fork and handle is somewhere in the landfill now.
