That's one nice swedge you made. I love to see members mods. Make me wonder which of my knives needs swedge

I just received this fine shadow Barlow from Mr J Oeser. Its his 5th slipjoint, and it boggles the mind to imagine whats in store for slipjoint lovers from this young maker. Jared adds a new school flavor to his knives and his style really resonates with me. So I'm going to play the game and let it ride this month, and wanted to get some shots of the knife in its virgin state--- its her first time, but Im not gonna go too easy on her:D The blade is 01(his first in 01) so I'm expecting a nice patina to form in no time. For those of you who are interested in Jared's work I can tell you the construction in the framework and liners are practically invisible, flush in all 3, the mill relief work around the joint is perfect and it showed up sickeningly sharp. I hope yall enjoy it as much as I do.

Here are the only two that reside with me at the moment. Both are Bokers, both were bought as seconds, but you could shave with either one.

Thanks Gevonovich that Ulster is a looker, also lots of great looking Boker barlows, I'm a Boker fan, I might have to seek one out.

The swedges you cut look nice. Did you cut them on the back/pile side of the blades too. If so, how about a picture of those too.

Not much I can tell you Duncan. It's a nice knife, carbon steel blades and springs that take a nice edge. It has half stops and the walk and talk is good. The finish is good the only thing that lets it down a little is the other scale which isn't as nice as the one visible in my picture. The pulls about a 5-6 on both blades which I like.
I think Boker have only been making this spear-point in the last few years, but I might be wrong? Overall I'd say it's a very nice Barlow and I'm very pleased with it.
I've had it in my pocket a couple of days now and I've not started itching for another knife so it must be pretty good.

Thank you Sir :D

I cut them only on the nail nick side like most of the older barlow i've seen...for both side swedges I have used the thicker bladed sunfish (and went full blade on back side and half swedge on nick side).

Seems like all the new Barlows have nice stag or jigged bone slabs and that they are just another shape in a way.

I actually kind of like the good old sawcut bone, rougher, maybe sturdier look. I think there is a market for a good "workingman's Barlow", along the lines of the good old pre-4004 Old Timers that many folks are accumulating. Delrin slabs instead of sawcut bone would be fine, a tough work knife like the original pattern. I'll take two please.

I carry a peanut sized knife after work. At work, a Barlow will handle the tough stuff while still being fairly innocuous to pull out.
