Traditional Pocket Dumps

Oh wow, that is really neat! 😍 I have yet to make anything out of leather, but I know I want to!

I have currently a good sized piece of cowhide and another neat piece of buffalo leather that I want to use to make some double slips for a few pairs of knives that I usually carry together.

Perhaps overly ambitious on my part, but I also have a copy of "How To Make Whips" by Ron Edwards - because I think the first time I popped my own whip, I'd really feel like I'd arrived!
You can do it
Remember, measure, measure & measure again.
Don't worry about mistakes, you learn from them.

Not super traditional but since this forum gives a pass for modern fixed blades I thought I’d give this a go.

Awesome dump!

I think as long as we keep modern knives out of the mix (as you've done) we're good!

This is a great example of what I was thinking when I started this thread which was founded to answer (in my mind at least 🤣) two questions:

1. In an age where we have an unprecedented ability to present ourselves, and our lives, in the way we wish to be seen - whether authentic or not - what unspoken truths will people of the future be able to glean about us by the items we carry on a daily basis?

2. How does a traditional slipjoint pocket knife fit into that equation and what does it say about those who value them enough to make them a part of their collection of "indispensable equipment"?

I like how you've combined some modern designs alongside some other items that very clearly speak to a simpler and very practical past.

I think future generations will look back on us a being the idiots who constantly took pictures of ourselves and every other stupid thing to show to strangers, rather than spending that valuable time to improve our lives or the lives of others.

I could be wrong, now.

But I don't think so....

Speaking for me, I think there is room for both.
This is probably not the best place for a philosophical discussion, though.

I don't know any more about it than a monkey's uncle, but wiser men than me have said it's all about finding that often elusive balance.

Be well, friend!

Beat me to it!

I have always carried my knife loose in my right front pocket with my keys and change. I can’t imagine what could be easier than just reaching into your pocket and pulling out your knife. Slips, clips, stitched partitions, etc. all seem like unnecessary hindrances to ready access.
Same here but with more pockets getting used.

Interesting thread. I was surprised to see that hardly any of you guys carry a cell phone in your pocket. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔☺️
It's like a Zen koan ...

What is the sound of one hand clapping?
What is the feeling of a finger that touches its own tip?
What is the nature of a pocket knife that can cut its own blade?
What is the appearance of a cell phone that takes a picture of itself?

I will meditate on this. 🧘‍♂️

🤣

No, you didn’t misunderstand my post. birdsbeaks birdsbeaks might have thought you were referring to his pocket dump.

The safety pin is used to create a small vertical partition in the bottom inside corner (crotch side) of my right front pocket. It keeps my knife comfortably vertical at the bottom of my pocket. I don’t like when they rotate horizontal, especially if larger than -3” long.

Here is a pic to help with the description.

Today's pockets. Pretty simple - wallet, fob, Crotts-designed Dozier in a pocket sheath, and smartphone. We're going to throw caution to the winds and see if this thread will work out. Let's keep the emphasis on the traditional knives, please.

I took this one, including the smartphone, with another smartphone that's not quite as smart!

Oh, don't act like you weren't waiting for it! 🤣

Cell phone, is that an amoeba?

In England we have mobile phones, cuz we is mobile... 😂

They've only been common for the past 30 years or so... we'll get the terminology sorted out eventually! 🤣

We're really going down the wormhole now, boys! 🤣

Never done a pocket dump picture…

I swap around a couple of cheapy timex expeditions when I’m not wearing a Fitbit - but most of the time, I have a Fitbit (with a cracked face 🫤) on my wrist. The wallet is only shown here because my number one wallet is currently on a spa treatment excursion up to VA with Jeremy sbh06 sbh06 . Proper dumps will be taken when my favorite wallet is in hand 😉. I hate to have keys all the way in the bottom of my pocket, so they always clip to my belt loop and then tuck into my back right pocket. One knife is always in the watch pocket, the other is in a slip in LFP.

The black thing…a hand warmer for silly southerners. It will be in the 50’s today 🥶
