Noooooo!!!I warped my rectangular griddle this weekend by putting it in the coals to clean. Never again.
Yes it does, i can smell the skin crisping up all the way from over here.Picture stinks.

Still not something I'd want to have happen to mine, I'd still be devastated.Yes. Went on a camping trip with friends. The griddle was very disgusting and I was too lazy/tired to clean it, so I just threw it in the fire. I figured since it was an overbuilt, modern Lodge it should be ok. I was wrong.
I now have firsthand knowledge of why cleaning cast iron in this manner is ill-advised. At least I did it with a modern Lodge and not one of my vintage Griswolds or Wagners.

That would be a tragic loss, at least modern Lodge, while good stuff, is replaceable. OHnot one of my vintage Griswolds or Wagners.
This is why I always take to task the "throw it in a hot fire!" cast iron advice and advisors. Absolutely no advantages over chemicals or elbow grease, it's all risk, no benefit.Yes. Steel wool and some canola oil will make up for a multitude of sins when it comes to cast iron. So will just boiling plain old tap water in it before the steel wool program. This is why I always take to task the "throw it in a hot fire!" cast iron advice and advisors. The simplest and usually the best way.So will just boiling plain old tap water in it
If I ever come across one of those for anything like a reasonable price, it'll be mine. The skillet that is...
