Trapped on a deserted Island folding knife

Really? How did you get the knife on the plane?

too funny.

Well if I were in my workout clothes I guess i'd have my Spyderco native light weight in 110V so that would be pretty rust resistant. If I were in regular clothes I'd have my Strider SMF with some bead blasted parts on the blade, so that would probably rust forever on the island and all. I'd probably hope for the larger blade so I could cut open coconuts and cases of rum.

Deserted Island?...

Bring it on LOL. :D;):thumbup::rolleyes:

A single machete or ten would be pretty awesome for this fictitious situation.;)

Sorry, I re-read the title; "Trapped on a deserted Island folding knife":

Folding 'Chete...;)

Legit answer this time; a Black Bear Knives Intimidator would be pretty useful:

Victorinox SwissTool Spirit Plus.

I agree with the Victorinox Spirit multi-tool. In a survival situation, its versatility would serve someone very well over any single-bladed folding knife. Also, it's far more corrosion-resistant than a Leatherman.

Tough, and large enough to have some heft for some light chopping on vegetation, wildlife, etc.;)

Plus the N690 blade steel and thick Ti liners don't hurt at all in terms of corrosion resistance.

I want to name several big a** tough lockblades I have, but truth is, in that "1 folder" situation, it would be a Victorinox Swiss Champ.

My Boker Plus Dark Hollow, It's big enough and heavy enough to chop, I can probably keep the 440C sharp if I can find a good enough rock and it's small enough to still do little work. Not to mention I have a lanyard on it with about 10 feet of cordage...so that could be useful.

I got it. The knife that comes out the side of a cell phone so that I can call someone to rescue me.

^^^ Wins thread/end. ;)

Better order pizza before you call for help so you leave with a full belly. :D

Dump this pile into my murse/tactical fanny pack and I'm good to go for at least a year or two of usage without having to resharpen. ;)

Just came across this at random but I think it would work for the "desert island" situation... It's wacky but I kind of want one LOL! ;):D

Really? How did you get the knife on the plane?

I usually have at least one in my checked baggage. Hidden under the insole of one of my size 14's.

If I had to choose from my meager collection of folders, it would probably be my trusty (and special) manix 2.

CTS-XHP is a very well rounded steel, and the blade shape is useful for a number of tasks.

The caged ball bearing lock will be less susceptible to getting sand in it, compared to a liner/frame/comp lock, which sand would cause lock up issues (I've had it happen 3 times down in Galveston Island, TX).

PB washers will be less affected by the sand compared to a BB pivot.

On its own, the Manix has far too much grip, so I removed the foliage green G-10 scales and put on desert ironwood ones by Sketchen. Still plenty of grip but won't shred your skin.

When I think of a deserted island, I think of very HOT weather and a very bright sun. Unless you have someway of keeping it cool, a metal handled knife is gonna burn the hell out of your hands.

This actually happened to me years ago when I worked for FedEx, but fortunately, I didn't have a folder at all, I had a hand-made fixed blade by Robert Erickson...it was a stainless about 10-11"OAL....the thing chopped, cut, & sliced for years, requiring next to no maintenance. I finally got sick of waiting around to die & I used it one last time to fashion a sweet makeshift raft.

If I had a folder on me back then, I wouldn't be here today. Wilson, if you're out there buddy...PM me.

This is the internet. He is not allowed to prevaricate. ;)

I took a Gerber Sportsman II on a plane. I had forgotten that it was in the pocket of my jacket. This was long before 911, but you still had to walk through a metal detecter. It didn't catch the knife. The last time I flew anywhere, the metal detecter caught the wire in my chest.
