That's gotta be a halibut Texas. ManofSteel can correct me if I'm wrong, but the only other thing it could be is a flounder, and I'm sure they don't get that big. Nice fish, I'd like to have some fresh.

What's the verdict on striped bass for table fare?

Very nice!! Were the rabbits taken in front of the beagle?
Thank you. And yes sir they were. There's another beagle in the crate behind Roscoe. They live for that man. Love hunting over those dogs.

Good looking fish. What was the first one.

Thanks man. That's a big old NJ fluke, the flounders bigger cousin. 1 step under a halibut I guess.

I wish it was a halibut. It's a good size fluke, and you're right I don't think flounder get that big. Certainly not here they don't, and if they do I haven't seen any lol. I've seen pictures of 10lb fluke but they're just that.. A fluke. The one in my picture is just under 7lbs, which is still a damn nice fish. Made lunch and dinner for 2 of us with a little left over for a drunken midnight snack of s sandwich

Striper is awesome! The smaller and closer to the legal limit the better. The big ones like that 35lb pig my uncle is holding (mind you he's 6'2") can get a little tough sometimes. That one was good but it's iffy most of the time if we're gonna keep one like that. Also, we tend to throw back the real big ones because those are the breeding females and we want to be able to keep the sport going. It was a bad year for us for striper so we were ready to stop buying fish and eat about anything worth keeping. My favorite way to have them is beer battered and fried or seasoned up and broiled. When it's warm I feel like all I eat is fish, which isn't a bad thing I guess. And when it's cold I tap into the reserve in the freezer and eat a ton of it too. I should probably get my mercury level checked huh?

I'm going to have to read up on fluke, I'm not sure if we've got them off the west coast or not. I like your policy on the big stripers. I try to apply the same philosophy on our fish out here. Doesn't hurt to take a real trophy fish home now and again, but better leave some if you want more to catch next year :)

Man our mercury levels are getting pretty high here in the Snake River. I love fish, well just about any kind of seafood, but the serving limit warnings are starting to take some of the fun out of it. You shouldn't have to look down at your plate and wonder.

Thanks for setting me straight on the fish. I hate being wrong, so I'm hoping that was just a fluke! ;) :D

So after a little more reading, it look as if the top side (dark side) of flounder and fluke is always originally the left side of the fish, and the right eye migrates. On halibut, the top side is originally the right side of the fish, and the left eye migrates. Bizarre, yet delicious. :)

Roscoe.....that's a great dog name. I love hunting over them too, though mine are a little taller :) My experience has been that the smaller ones have a heart that's just as big, though.

Out elk hunting this morning. The fog was so thick, we couldn't see 50 yards in front of us. Got a couple cool pics of the sun coming up.

We seen a group of about 10 cows. We are not in a hurry. The hunt lasts until the end of December.

Good Lord that is gorgeous. It's like straight out of Last of the Mohicans or something.

I have to do quite a bit of driving to see something like that. Enjoy it!
