Trophy Room - Hunting and Fishing Pics

My VTR chambered in .308 with a Bushnell scope.
I hope to have a better scope if I get drawn for the exotics hunt in west Texas.

Damn that's nice. I was looking at a Tikka T3 lefty a few years ago but didn't go for it because the price was ridiculous out here. I wonder how hard it would be to find a Remi like this in left hand.

Hadn't done good long range with it but for east Texas hunting (within 200 yards) its pretty good. Lots of trees and low brush so we don't get monster shots like you muleys on the side of MTS and such. I'm hoping I get drawn on a big horn or mt goat hunt this year in west Texas. I'm also in on a few mule deer draws axis and prong horn. And of course javillina and feral hog. I'd like too get my tag fill on turkey too. But don't we all. :)

As for a lefty bro I'm not sure. But I'll look onto it for ya. ;)

Remington does make some LH bolt action. I never thought to look for that. I shot pistols through my left eye. Only way I'm really comfortable on a pistol. But rifles I shot right. And my bows.

I finally stumbled across one also! I'll have to keep that in mind once I'm ready to pick up a good rifle.
I'm lucky to be left eye dominant on rifle and hand gun. My buddy Travis found out recently that he's a left eye dominant right hander and he's having a hard time overcoming it since he's been using his right eye.

On a rifle?

Yeah he's in trouble with that. I told him to get a patch to put over the left eye to overcome it. I doubt it'll work but at least I'll get a good laugh out of it.

When shooting in a scope I leave my non dominant eye open. Sounds weird but works for me and scopes. This is not all the time. Only close. 100 yards or less.

I'll have to tell him next time we go out. It's a 2 hour drive from here to legally shoot so we do go much anymore. Some idiot that we know started a fire shooting shotguns at our local spot so it's shutdown now.

I shoot off my porch. I almost bagged a doe last year on thanksgiving with my in laws here. My brother in law walked to the fence like they were gonna eat out of his hand by time I came out with the gun they were ready to bolt.

I shoot "long" range in the creek bottom. Its behind the house.

This is a target for pistols. We tape the paper over the sign.

It is only a one buck county so its not great. If you want to hunt doe or more Buck they have certain days you can with certain fire arm. Never got anything but my dad has during muzzle loader season. That's a certainly a change of pace from modern fire arms. My dad has an old school cap and ball 50 cal. Its fun to shoot but difficult for me.

My daughter has the same problem, right-handed but left eye dominant. I feel very fortunate to be both right-handed and right eye dominant after watching her struggle with it. However, she has worked at it hard, and is an excellent shot, deadly in the woods.

If your buddy is inclined to shoot an AR platform, it absolutely stops you from shooting with your left eye. You just can't get your head over far enough like you can with a bolt gun.

Here's a buck my girl killed a couple years back using a bolt action.

I believe he noticed the problem after he got his AR a few years ago. I'm not sure how much time he has behind a rifle but I know he used to do a lot of quail hunting out here. I'll have to ask if he even noticed before or if his eye dominance changed.
That's a pretty good size Buck she got there!
