Trophy Room - Hunting and Fishing Pics

Happy (belated) birthday fellas!

Grogimus, nice walleye man. We struck out on channel cat this weekend, but the smallmouth and bluegill were biting. Did you fry him up?
Grilled up and delicious! I was supposed to head home in the morning but we're heading to Lake St. Claire tomorrow night now. I'm so bummed [emoji12]

We did some Blue fishing out the Oregon Inlet 2 weeks ago. The girls had a ball. Caught a bunch.

That looks awesome. Fishing here is such a different animal. I'm used to just drowning worms back home in Iowa, that's how we fish. We were trolling on the St. Claire River and the rods were bent over the whole time, I kept twitching towards the rod whenever the tip bounced around. When the walleye hit I apparently got lucky because I jerked the rod hard to set it then was told just to keep steady pressure and reeling on.

Nice! I've heard they are good. I caught lots of pike in Montana, but never fished walleye. My cousin in Minnesota lays into them and sends me pictures to rub it in :D

The biggest fish I've ever caught was a 39" muskie another time I visited my buddy, caught it on lake St. Claire also. Was a bigger boat running 4 planer boards. I've never hooked a Northern pike. I think walleye is right next to rainbow trout as my tastiest freshwater fish. I hear the perch here is pretty good but haven't tried it yet.

I'd love to get into the muskies, I'll bet that 39-incher fought. My best northern is 37". I decided to get him mounted, not a very good picture of it, there's a GSO in the way :)

Nice! Those Northerns are beasts, we usually had to use steel leaders to keep them from tearing your line.

I love that pouch on your sheath. What is it???

Nice sheath/pouch combo! But... Lemme get this thread back on track.

23 yards
55# Bear Montana Longbow
G5 Small Game Head

These heads hit like a sledgehammer. Spun him 360 degrees and he never moved. Twas a head shot...

Unfortunately I dont eat these rabbits. It is pest control. They are covered in fleas and ticks and I have spent hundreds of dollars medicating my dogs after they eat the rabbit shit and get parasites.

Lunged her this last dec not a spot of blood to trail got dark went home came back out at dawn and found her 30 yards from where I hit her.

That's an ESEE pouch. The USA made ones fit the new GSO5.1 perfectly.

Yep. Just make sure to locate the USA made esee pouch. You can identifiy them when closed by the 90 degree corner on the left of the flap, and the rounded corner on the right of the flap. This kind usually comes with a black RAT altoids-sized tin, too

You are getting dialed in, bud! The ticks on our rabbits can get ridiculous as well. I hate when you think you have a decent one late in the year, and then walk up to it with a bunch of swelled up ticks :barf:

Yeah man... I read Byron Ferguson's book which had some good pointers in it and made me realize that I am not an instinctive shooter. I am definitely a "gap" shooter and right now I prefer about an 75/25 split focus. 75% on the target and 25% on the gap between the point of my arrow and the target. All of my form issues were resolved last year when I started videoing myself shooting from different angles. Also I added a few new lifts to my weight training program which has made a serious difference in my ability to draw to anchor, pause and aquire the correct gap (sight picture) and then release. Byron's book is all about instinctive shooting. After reading it I had an epiphony... Any archer that shoots barebow is a gap shooter. When you first start shooting you have to consiously focus on your arrow point. Like how you should concentrate on the front sight of a handgun. As you progress you naturally program in the sight picture for various distances. Eventually your focus shifts from the arrow point to the target. You can call yourself an instinctive shooter when you have those gaps programmed in and never have to really think about them. Byron states his focus is about 90/10 or even closer to 95/5 and the guy can shoot aspirin out of the air. But he shoots ALOT. My goal is to be able to smack rabbit sized targets more times than I miss. Shooting at empty 20 ounce soda bottles is pretty much like shooting at rabbits or squirrells and is really fun. The way I see it, if I can hit rabbits I will be ready for any deer that comes close.

Set about 40 blue gill, white crappie, black crappie, and just a few sun fish loose in one of our ponds. They were about 2-5 inches. Some will be a good dinner for some of the bass, hopefully some will grow up to be a good dinner for us one day.

I love hunting and fishing, but putting back to the environment is just as rewarding sometimes.

Riz, you are way beyond me in the sharp stick department my friend. I will say this, I love to see anybody take the time and dedication to be great at their chosen skill. Kudos to you brother.

TT good on you bud, and well said. Did the kiddo get to help release some of those?

Riz great shot with the longbow!
I've been terribly busy with my land and building but my buddy and I managed to slip away for trout after working on my building.

Here's my new garage man cave
