TSA baby-steps it towards more rational policy concerning knives on planes

i love knives but this is a terrible idea, please tell me what has changed from now and '01 when they were banned? nothing, knives are still just as sharp, we need to keep the airways safe, this isnt the way. if you need a knife where you are going, dont carry it ON the plane, put it in your luggage and thats that. get it when you get your bags. you wont need it on the plane, 2.3in is no good for self defense, what are your gonna need it for? to open chips? man up and get a grip. no way a knife should be in the cabin.

Do trolls eat cat food?

You "like" knives, but you don't "LOVE" knives... "Get a grip" yourself.

Not everybody checks bags for a three day trip. 2.3" isn't good for self defense but it is dangerous? Which is it?

you do realize that you're making this statement on bladeforums right?

prior to 911 knives were not an issue on airplanes and i think that they're (very slowly) starting to realize this.

actually box cutters were used iirc.

i carry a knife every day and everywhere, even if there's no foreseeable application.

people edc at weddings, church and even at funerals.

we don't need to justify it.

no ones going to let 911 happen again bro...

I think I would carry only my Victorinox Executive; according to the measurements, the larger (but still small) blade on it is just under the length limit.

I'm still stoked that some degree of sense is being restored. And maybe it will help boost SAK sales for Victorinox again back to pre-2001 levels.

BRING BACK THE CO PILOT!!! Ooops, blade is probably too thick. Doesn't matter, CO PILOT!

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I'm definitely taking my Vic Classic. My Buck 309 qualifies... Maybe my Vic Bantam, too.

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

So, a 2.3" knife is not suitable for self-defense (hurting someone) but we need to keep the airplane safe, so you can't have them...?

first of all, nobody is carrying a 2.3" SAK for self defense. So yes, more likely needed for opening chips...

Not everybody wants to check luggage. So why would they do it just for a folding knife? Given the likelihood that it will be stolen anyway.

lastly, go away, you troll.

Hmmmm...I was just contemplating what kind of knife I should make to celebrate this momentous occasion. I make friction folders pretty well, but always with a longer tail that "locks into place" when gripped firmly. I wonder if one of those would successfully fly under the radar? I'm thinking a nice 2"ish wharncliff style blade....maybe I could sneak a very subtle choil into it?

This could be fun!

I've been measuring the blade on my Bantam over and over. I get 6.2 cm, just a hair too long

I heard today that they are allowing folding knives under 6 cm length and 1/2 inch wide, starting 25 April. Those are exactly the dimensions of the large blade on my SAK Climber and Huntsman. Sure would be nice to bring a SAK when I travel again...
