Uh, oh! Not a knife, yet.

Well, I got to just about finishing one side to 220 grit. She's looking a little shiny now, which is really nice:)

Now if it weren't for all those pesky customers coming in and buying stuff and needing bicycles fixed, then I'd be much further ahead!

The home studio is almost done. I can't wait to start being able to work after work:D

bro, I'm going to 1500:D

Did you do something awful.... to be asking for so much punishment??? LOL :)

I figured you'd glue the handles on as soon as you got them back and start hacking things up! :D

I don't know what I did to deserve this!:p
Hehe, I brought it upon myself- but I think that you can share some of the blame, Nick:D

As for getting out there and using it right away, I want to make sure it's as perfect as I can get it, (within reason;)). Ultimately, I'm thinking I'd like to do a good test with pictures and stuff that I can post up here.

I haven't done anything with regards to shaping the handle or figuring out too much until the blade is finished. But- last night I think I figured out how I'm going to shape the handle and I'm very pleased with the rough drawing so far. I riffed RJ Martin's designs a bit and ergonomics are the key thing but I think it's going to look pretty neat as well.

The bevels are looking swell, and I have a feeling this knife is going to be brutally sharp and with a long lasting edge. You can sort of see the convex on one of the photos where the picture was taken from an angle.

I had all sorts of crazy ideas for another knife just this morning. This fascination is really taking hold. I've always made and sought to learn about art, and I've always been fascinated by knives. So, looks like things are starting to come together:thumbup::cool:.

Home sweet home!

still a bit messy, and I don't have much in the way of tools yet, but next spring I will be hitting the garage sale scene hard! I can't abide crappy tools, so it's going to take awhile to get what I want. But I have my space, and that's the most important.
I just love working away in the garage with the radio on. There I can forget about the stresses of everyday life and drift into making an interesting object.

Looks like a great place to work my friend!
I look forward to seeing the workshop and the knife progress!!
Hmm, a syncros curtain, I am envious... :)

And another good tip, since you are using steel tube for your sanding block glue paper to all 4 sides so all you have to do is rotate the pipe!

that's an awesome idea. I'll just need to true the other surfaces, but that's brilliant. Thanks Sam.

I've been a little distracted from this project, especially since I got a couple of new knives which required some sheaths, so they're almost done and I'm hoping to get back to sanding this afternoon:thumbup:

Mike, they are indeed! I now have three Goos and the man makes a very good knife, or at least three:D:p.

He'd be a cool guy to have come down to your school...

ps. thanks for the props on the sheaths:). I've been wanting to get these knives out and used in the world, but without sheaths they just kind of hang out around the house.

And thanks again, Ryan, if you're out there! I appreciate you keeping me in mind when these came up for sale:thumbup: I love them.

well I'm half way done with 320 on one side:jerkit: Granted, I've only spent about 6 hours in total actually sanding the thing...
This is TEDIOUS WORK!

This shot is at the 220 stage. First I sand at perpendicular to the centerline of the blade, then when all the longitudinal scratches from the previous grit are gone, I clean it up with longitudinal sanding strokes.
And then on to the next grit, and the next, and the next...

so here I am at 320 grit with my first pass. You can see the longitudinal
scratches I'm trying to remove from the previous grit. Once they're gone,
I'll remove the perpendicular sanding scratches but pushing my sanding bar
from ricasso to tip.

But I LOVE IT!:)
