I recently bought a knife from sickwitit

Geoff Blauvelt Tuff Prospect
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/geoff-blauvelt-tuff-prospect.1941815/

Upon receipt I was unable to open the knife the normal way via the Spydie Hole.

I immediately contacted sickwitt, explained my problem and asked to return the knife for a refund- Compensating him for any cost incurred.

He refused. No Refunds. Not mentioned in the For Sale Listing.

“Just because you don't know how to open a knife is not my fault. No refunds.”

I’ve had transactions here before that didn’t work out but we were able to resolve the issue amicably to both parties satisfaction.

It’s my understanding that a deal isn’t complete until both parties are happy.

braillediver braillediver , so the knife functions properly? If in the end it’s not for you, just realist it and pass it on. Not unheard of to get a knife in hand and realize it’s just not for you, not sure that falls on anyone else.

I've got a maxace black mirror that I find hard to open, your thumb has to be positioned in a very specific way to not bind up the detent ball. I'd feel like that would be worth mentioning if I were to sell it

I don’t believe that just because it has a spydie hole that it means you can thumb flick it out. A spydie hole is for opening. Just like a thumbstud.

This is a tricky situation because it sounds like the hole functions properly, just not in the way you want it to.
On the other hand, BF rules state that both parties must be happy.

I would just list it for sale, as it sounds like there is nothing functionally wrong with the knife.

This opinion is based on the facts that have been stated so far in this thread.

Edit to add: The “normal” way to open with a spydie hole is a slow roll. The “thumb flick” originated when folks started to loosen their pivots in order to “flick” it out.
It is also NOT a Spyderco, but a maker’s custom knife. Just because a knife has a Spydie hole does not mean that the action is the same as a Spyderco.

The OP appears to be an experienced Spyderco user, and a polite one at that. The knife was sold claiming "Amazing action and lockup as is expected on his customs". Not a cheap knife either. There is no excuse for the seller not to take the knife back, IMO.

Then again, it was another F&F payment, so there you go. Still amazed that people are willing to do that for larger values, in particular with sellers with few posts and who obviously want to cheat on their taxes.

While a very good and used practice by better sellers.
In this case , if the knife is not defective(or misrepresented), I would just re -sell it. I would only return if the problem was one I didn't want to pass on to another. I adhere to taking back returns for whatever reason, but it should not be abused.
Both parties should treat the other as they would like to be treated themselves.

I agree with this ferider ferider

If sold with “amazing action” in description, then Spydie flicking should be do-able.

I also agree that a knife advertised as having “amazing action“, should not be difficult to open.

I find the term " amazing action" to be rather subjective myself.

However In the " until both parties are happy" rule I can see the buyers point, however I also would be frustrated as a seller that a knife was coming back because the buyer didn't know how to open it.

Almost seems we are telling folks to use the exchange as a try it to see if you like it show room. What will stop the unscrupulous amongst from buying because they always wanted to see one of those knowing they would return it long before the credit card bill comes in, or hey I bought this last week but now my car broke down and I need my money back?

Then there's the sellers that sell a knife out of their collection to get funds for another piece. They know damn well the knife sold is mint as listed and the funds from the sale go to the knew knife right away, then buyer has buyers remorse and seller doesn't have the money to return. Now lots of us are older and in pretty good shape but some of the younger may not be in a position to make a refund / return and we aren't stores..

Don't get me wrong if a knife shows up and isn't what was represented either on purpose or by error then the seller damn well better be ready to take the knife back and Ive only found on that didn't and he's no longer with us.

I personally have relisted a number of knives I didn't like, and have returned a couple with unclaimed or unnoticed issues but thats just my take on it.

.... and we aren't stores..

I wonder about that ... not you, of course, but if a member spends 100% of his BF time in the Exchange, and list a knife every other day, 10 knives in less than a month, he should behave like a good store and offer returns.

Some members do sell an amazing amount of knives. This does increase the odds that someone will not be happy with their purchase.

A fine point that I completely agree with! I honestly was making more of an in general comment as I wasn't familiar with the seller, I probably should have been.

^There is absolutely no excuse, for this type of indignant behavior when selling on this forum, but this is the type of behavior I would expect from a seller selling his knives here using an unethical TOS/method of payment which leaves his buyer's completely $hit out of luck with zero recourse. < Which is exactly what we have here.

I don't care what the buyer's reason(s) are, even if I'm not happy with a buyer's request/reason, I will always politely accept back whatever I may have sold, refund their money and then move on.

Unethical F&F seller's/tax cheaters who are clearly becoming so common place here, using this forum only as a means to sell their knives, are an easy pass for me. If these seller's are willing to cheat PayPal, as a means to circumvent the new tax laws which have been put in place by the IRS (whether I agree with them or not); it's no surprise that some of these type seller's would have the same "f%*K you" self-entitled type attitude when dealing with other member's here. For the life of me, I just have a hard time comprehending, why anyone, would Gift/F&F larger sums of money, for an item sight unseen, to a total internet stranger (which is exactly what the seller in question is to me).

Seller should issue prompt refund. Advertising “amazing action” on a knife that is difficult to open is misleading.

If seller refuses to refund then I would post negative feedback, summarizing your complaint, and the original sales link.

Bad sellers are bad for everyone on this site.
