Upcoming Northwoods #54

True!

I think if you're happy with the #73 you'll be fine with the #54. I have a #53 stockman and it depends on the strides I'm wearing. Sometimes it's annoying if it lies flat in the pocket, this'll be where the pouch will be handy as it'll keep the knife upright. My complaint with the #53 Stockman is it can feel a little round in the hand, giving the impression it will roll. I'm sure other happy owners will chime in but I don't imagine you'll have that problem with the single blade #54.

I am not too keen on carrying it in a pouch, I have never tried that before. It is really hard to decide with this knife as being outside of the US this becomes a considerable purchase due to KSF shipping options, and will be hard to recover costs if it does not suit and I have to sell local. I don't think the market for slippys is that big over here...decisions

D'you know, northwoods just doesn't do it for me. It's the big logo. Not my thing.

Have you looked at other GEC equal end knives? The White Owl for example? Similar shape but smaller frame. Still a few around with different dealers....

Oh aye, I've a #68 in cocobolo, what I mean is the Northwoods logo in particular I find distasteful. I'm not a fan of big logos in general, which isn't an issue with most GEC for me because I use them and the patina pretty quickly develops over the blade etch. It's a personal thing.

Everyone's experiences (and pockets!) are different, but due to the included Moccasin sheath's size, thickness, and top flap I've found it best to consider it as a replacement for a box or other packaging (which is how it's described by KSF), and not as a pocket slip.

As a replacement box, used thereafter for packing or carrying a non-immediately-accessible knife in all manner of ways (including interior jacket pockets), the sheath excels. It's a cool addition, the only "box" I've used after receiving a knife, and I'm really glad to have it. As a pocket item for a knife I will be using regularly throughout the day? It's neither slim nor convenient enough for my purposes.

I did wonder.... I've got a few other slips around should it be an issue...

Guys, I've got a question. Was just fondling my knife in the office and noticed something peculiar. Yesterday there was a small fold/bad spot on the edge, and I chalked it up to something that I had cut. I sharpened it out yesterday, and just noticed it again. After some inspecting, it is in the spot where the backspring curves up in the handle. It appears that the blade is hitting the backspring with enough force to put a bad spot in the blade.

Being fairly new to traditionals, is this normal? Has anybody else noticed this?

That is not normal. Shoot us an email and we will get it back from you and you can choose a different one. That one can go back to GEC for a tweak.

Thanks Derrick, I just sent an email using the form on the website.

Oops, sorry. i was replying to Marc9910.

After a bit of tinkering I think I've found my solution to the 'long knife' issue:)

I'll find something a bit nicer than a bootlace in the long run. The knife sits where a clipped knife would. Comfy:)

I've been carrying my new camel bone for a few days now. I really like this knife: not too heavy and the single blade makes it very comfortable in the hand. The only complaint I have is that the spring force is very heavy (already cut myself once)!!!! The #54 should be a great work knife with its stout blade and large frame. Definitely a winner for KSF!

P.S. With apologies to Derrick, I polished off (most of) the forge finish on the blade using Flitz; the camel bone was just too nice to go with the "rough" look. :p

That's funny, 'cause I put cold blue on that area of my stag version to enhance the forged look. ;)
