UPDATE Hinderer Full Track Lock Stick

I can’t believe the number of people that are having problems with this knife. I think I’ve counted 3 or 4 in this and other threads posted that don’t have any problems (myself included). Bad batches? Some hit and miss as far as parts go? I’d sure like to know the answer. I feel bad for all those having problems.

I thought your lockbar was also very stiff and thumb numbing ? Could of sworn we talked about it before but my apologies if I’m not correct .

Yes, it is. It’s still the same. I was referring to the lock stick that people are having. That video was really bad.
Oh ok at least I know I’m not going crazy and had brain stick :)
Yes that was some brutal lock stick on the thread starter .
Mine has none it just has a super super super strong Lockbar tension .
Is your 24 the new triway and if so how do you like it and how’s the detent ?

Well the verdict is in and sadly after careful consideration I’ve decided to return it and probably go for the old faithful 24 tried and proven .It will give my thumbs time to heal lol it’s even hard now for me to push the button on my protech auto my thumbs are so sore . For me no matter how much I liked the knife the pain and or trade off wasn’t worth it .
If the lockbar issue ever gets resolved I would get another Fulltrack in a heartbeat .
It’s was a 22.00 dollar click and ship expense for shipping usps priority and insured but a small price to pay for happiness:)

^^ So no lock stick, just a stiff lock arm? Man I’d trade for that any day.
I can deal with stiff lock arm. The lock stick is a killer.
I think I’ll be returning or exchanging, pending some epiphany from Hinderer support..

^^ I hear ya but both my thumbs are thanking me for my decision to return it lol. I tried to talk myself out of returning it but every time I picked it up and tried to disengage the lockbar my thumbs were screaming please send it back.
I definitely didn’t want to wait until it was to late to return it and have a 600.00 Regret to sell on the block for a huge loss.I cut it close to the wire within a few days as it was
But yes just a stiff lockbar from hell !
Stiffest I’ve ever experienced even comparing to a Medford I had with lock stick was easier to disengage.

Yes, mine just has the strong lock bar tension. No lock stick at all with mine. I don't have a 24 yet. I'm waiting for them to come out with the slicer, hopefully. I'm not really a fan of the spanto, although I do have a gen 4 non flipper spanto. That knife feels like it's running on bearings.

Anyone has got a response from Hinderer? Are they revising the lock tension etc on upcoming batches?

I don't get it. My lock tension seems fine. Maybe Hinderer already revised the knife.

I have flipped the thing for hours at a time and not even noticed any wear on my thumb.

I just opened and closed mine 25 times for the heck of it. Either my thumb is getting used to it or it's breaking in more now. Whatever it is, I love this knife. It's lock bar tension is stronger and weaker than some of my other knives depending on which it is compared to. Either way, I won't be getting rid of mine.

I couldn’t get past about 3 or 4 times of opening and closing mine without it being painful leaving huge intentions on my thumbs and actually ripping off a calis I was originally happy to get but now back down to the raw meat on my thumb again . Another issue I didn’t care for is when you adjusted the pivot the screw the nut that was on the other side would move from side to side depending which way you turned the pivot screw and have movement like the recess in the frame wasn’t cut right were the nut was seated . Also you could see the pivot screw was ever so much off center at a slight angle . Some sharp burrs on the frame around the lock bar insert were it wasn’t smoothed out . For this price range the more I think about it the happier I am about my decision to return.
For those with none of those issues and have become thumb friendly with there’s I hope you enjoy your Fulltrack to it’s fullest :)

I’ve actually been very much impressed with the Halftrack and Gen6 XM3 that I want the FullTrack.. now I can’t decide ;(

I say get one and if you have any issues just return it . Without the issues that mine had they really are a great knife .
But for me I’m more happier now returning it then I was receiving it now that the honeymoon was over and giving it a close inspection before deciding to return it and discovering things unacceptable at that price range on “mine” anyway .

In my experience, bending the lockbar SLIGHTLY can adjust the tension, without introducing lock stick or lock rock. If RHK "revises" an existing knife, I suspect that's also what they're gonna do.

I actually sent Hinderer a email about a week ago asking some questions about the extremely stiff lock bar and they never responded back to this day .
Was going to call them but after realizing the big picture I decided just to return . In there defense it’s possible they never Recieved my email for some reason . Also checked my junk mail daily with no luck .

One interesting thing I noticed in this thread is that all the people posting issues have the DLT version, which used M390 (instead of 20CV on all others). Personally, I handled a prototype at the USN Gathering last year, and several for-sale models at the Las Vegas Custom show earlier this year, and they were all fine. Then, I bought one at DLT and it did have the lockstick/stiff lockbar issues.

It'd be interesting if they all came from the same batch, or if there's some issue with how Hinderer is making the DLT-specific ones. Either way, as much as I love DLT as a company, at this point I'd probably recommend getting the 20CV version from another retailer. Only the Full Track, though - everything else, buy from DLT :)

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just my thumb getting used to it. Thinking about it, can a lock bar really get better over time opening and closing a knife? You can’t say that you didn’t give the knife a chance. You tried it out and it it wasn’t for you.
FWIW, I haven’t used my gen 4 Hinderers for quite a while. I’m guessing for at least a few months. I wanted to do a comparison so I just opened and closed the Full Track five or six times. I then did the same thing with my gen 6 xm-18s and they were clearly much easier. After those, I did it with my gen 4s and they are in a different league. Man, that lock bar is so easy to use. It almost felt spongy to me it was so smooth and easy.

Stuff like this is part of the reason I’m not in a big hurry to drop 400+ dollars on a knife. No matter how expensive a knife is, you could still run into issues. It is just far more painful when your out over 400 dollars.

Hey guys, I wanted to step in and address the lock stick issue.

We have noticed a small amount of the Full tracks coming back due to issues with lock stick as well as seen these forum posts. We wanted to let you know that DLT is actively working with Hinderer to get this addressed. I want to emphasize that the number of affected knives has been small, but the issue is consistent and repeatable enough that we feel it needs to be addressed. As such we have taken down all of our Full Tracks from the website until the lock stick is addressed and resolved to ensure that DLT's customers do not receive one of the affected knives going forward.

In regards to the affected knives being mostly from us, we are confident that the issue is not related to the M390, it is more likely related to the fact that we purchased more Full Tracks than other dealers and the likelihood of us having knives in the wild with the issue is higher because of that fact.
