UPDATE Hinderer Full Track Lock Stick

I have one from MonkeyEdge.. 20CV. Ya it sticks.. too. But it’s ok, maybe due to the weight of the blade? Currently still one hand operatable..
One thing tho, the retent hole seems a tad big, at close I can move the blade a little...

I got mine to the point I could do one hand unlock and close but it was tight as hell. The thing that caused me to ship it back to the Ranch to get fixed was when I could reliably make it have Lock Stick so bad it took two hands to get it to release and close the blade. This was achieved by doing a light flip opening. Something is broke and need fixing and I'm confident it will be perfect when it comes home.

^^ Really hoping to too. They need to bend the bar a little bit and fix the tang/insert issue.
I'll be re-ordering as soon as we hear word.

Been playin with the FT.. noted this; the frame and lockbar is on same level.. and the thumb relieve is rather shallow and wo jimpping, the opening is not that wide also. I dun have large hands/thumb, even then I find myself having difficulties when disengaging the lock.. most times I am pushing down as much as pushing out.. ;(

Outside of one post I have stayed out of this thread but feel it is time to chime in. This issue is not spread through out all Full Tracks. It is a very isolated incident that unfortunately was tied to one dealer that has an exclusive. I was fortunate enough to get to visit Hinderer when the very first Full Tracks were being made. During my time there I got to work with the assembly crew and even got to assemble a dozen or so myself. They even let me sign the assembly card and bring those back to sell to our customers. We had the very first batch of Full Tracks a couple of months ago and when we posted them they sold out the same day. To this date we have not had one complaint about lock stick that I can remember. The comments on here of folks shocked, wondering how Hinderer could let these knives leave the Ranch with this kind of problem, are coming from people who have never been on the inside of a knife manufacturers walls. Trust me, if this was going on while at the Ranch, Hinderer would have never let these few go out the door. Each knife assembled is checked a ton of times and then checked again.

Lock stick happens. We have seen it happen on knives we sell in every price point. While it is rare from every manufacturer, it can occur. Just like lock slip can and has happened with every manufacturer. This thread makes it seem like it was 100 knives, where it appears it was less than 20. Please do not make a mountain out of an ant hill.

While DLT is a competitor that we would love to crush:D they are great folks. They will take care of the issue and so will Hinderer. The Full Track is a bad ass knife and the idea of anyone taking a pass on it based on this thread would be a big mistake.

Agreed. ;)
Awesome knife awesome concept. TriWay pivot is good.. the attached tool is better! I never knew the convenience of it til I have it ;)

Thats detent rock. Very annoying and impossible to get rid of unless the manufacturer replaces the lockbar (or the blade).

Thanks for the post. Great information.

At the same time, I really appreciate the OP and other buyers of this bad batch as it got the issue raised to the point where the affected knives got pulled. The key was awareness. This is actually good for Hinderer and all involved as it could’ve led to people never giving Hinderer another chance.
Very easily, a lot of folks could’ve just quietly put up with their defective $600 knives.
I know I’ve bought TWO more Hinderers since this first bad experience.

DLT really are stand up folks for handling this how they did.
I’ll be re-ordering a fixed model as soon as they are available, and more, I’m sure.

We know it’s not widespread. If it was, there would be a whole lot more stink about it.

Just received my replacement Hinderer Full Track from DLT and it was great right out of the box... at first. The first 10-20 flips I was so excited to get a perfect Full Track. 30 flips later the lock stick started to rear its ugly head. By 70 blade deployments there’s nasty thumb busting lock stick. I’ve only needed two hands to open the knife twice, but every closing of the knife is an unacceptable chore with loud, clunky lock stick.

This is Full Track number two with really bad lock stick for me. It’s also 3 out of 3 Hinderer knives that have been defective right from the factory. Obviously the M390 run of Full Tracks has quite a few lock problems. I’ll be returning the knife to DLT for a refund and moving on from Hinderer.

Sorry, but $1,625.00 worth of Hinderer knives with serious problems right out of the box is not making a mountain out of an ant hill!!! I still contend that additional attention to QC at the factory should catch the problems I’ve experienced. There’s no way my Full Track was opened more than a couple of times at the factory. The lock face had almost no evidence of contacting the lock bar insert and that was after DLT opened it a couple of times to check for lock stick.

After each deployment of the replacement knife I slowly watched the mark on the blade lock surface made by the lock bar insert go from nonexistent to quite large as the lock stick progressively got worse.

Thanks to DLT for the excellent customer service. I just don’t think this knife purchase or Hinderer ownership was meant to be for me.

I Believe there were other posts with the same issue and not just DLT exclusives . Not sure what was going with production quality control on this model but other then the Fulltrack I had and returned All other Hinderers were outstanding with the exception of blade angle made poor cutters on certain material. They Looked to have corrected it on the Fulltrack and later models I believe .
On another note big props to DLT for taking care of there customers the way they have even though it wasn’t there fault they still payed for return shipping for me on a 24 I exchanged it for and shipped it out the same day even though I’m sure they were flooded with returns.
Now I just need to open the box of my new 24 that’s been sitting on the table all day :)
Also besides the crowbar stiff lock bar mine had sharp jagged edges around the frame surrounding the lock bar in a small area . Also the pivot bolt had play we’re it seats in the frame from side to side when moving the pivot screw from left to right . Looks like it would eventually round the corners off on the pivot bolt . Don’t know if mine was the only one to have it but definitely had it . Other then the above it was a nice knife in design but quality control was off on it and the only one out of more then a handful of Hinderers I’ve owned .
Edit: On a side note after paying 600.00 dollars and having the issues that mine had and being able to pass through a hand assembly and tuning process with a signed card at Hinderer made me raise a eyebrow. I was going to get a refund I was so upset .But after some more thought and calming down realizing how many first class knives I got from Hinderer and most importantly I wanted not to do that to DLT because there a such stand up down to earth company. So I wanted get another knife with them as there will be many more to come .

Both of the Full Tracks I’ve received have the jagged edges on the frame surrounding the lock bar. Looks like poorly executed machining, but I would be okay with it if the lock just worked correctly. I’m so frustrated because I really want to like this model of knife!

Ok so mine wasn’t the only one .
Yes I could of accepted all the issues also if it didn’t have a crowbar like lockbar that my thumbs hated and are still mad at me about.

You can clearly see the jagged machining in my photo in the previous post. You can also see it in the attached image of the first Full Track that I received. It doesn’t affect the knife’s performance, but it seems odd for the level of finish on a $600 Knife!

I'm not sure if it's just shadowing but it appears the the recessed milling for the pivot nut is sloppy. Thanks to the op and other contributors for being brave enough to run the gauntlet of Hinder fanboys and post this (Isolated) $600 Dollar problem. I don't know how mountains got dragged into this and why ants? They are one of nature's most efficient creations working in large numbers to achieve perfection. That said I still plan on getting one soon as they work out the Bugs. < Pun intended :D

As I mentioned earlier the pivot nut on mine had play also and you could actually feel it move sometimes when open and closing the knife and or when tightening or loosing the pivot screw.
