I thought it was common courtesy not do declare "knives" in packages. He shipped the package making sure it gets seized..... David
I know custom knifemakers who declare exactly what is in the package and its value. Would you ask these knifemakers to be less than honest so you could have an illegal knife?

Perhaps he should have sent the knife AND the supplies (that were paid for) to the U.S. address as requested.

oh of course, no one ever does that, never ever lol, come on now.........

i just hope this ends up ok for everybody, its been a mess imho.

My damascus BM balisong was received by the addressee requested in the U.S. yesterday. The package was dated December 29, 2004... I might add that there were no supplies whatsoever included in the package; just the knife, its box, the guarantee, and a bandaid originally sent by New Graham.

Funny, I reread the post over at the "other place" and you indicated that Kyle could keep the supplies and please send the knife to your other knifemaker in the US. Did you change your mind?

BTW, I understand your grief that you were out of your knife for 9 months. For whatever the reason it isn't easy being out of your property.

When was that proposal made and was it accepted by performance (return of the knife) in a reasonable time after it was made? (As I understand it, the knife was just received at the address to which it was supposed to be sent.)

WOW! I must admit I am shocked a bit that this FINALLY worked out. It seemed hopless til now. Well, I guess I owe Kyle a pat on the back for once as promised. Kyle, should you read this. I say thank you for coming to the correct conclusion, taking care of business and doing what is right. Sending the knife so it wasn't confiscated. Dan, congrats for winning what seemed like a losing battle! Take care...Rich

Many months ago I offered to let Kyle keep the files he supposedly purchased for working on the knife; considering the circumstances, it might have been proper to send them. I definitely wanted all the other supplies, including what was suggested by other forumites as being a piece of damascus.

Many questions remain unanswered... Was the knife really sent out several months ago? Was a piece of damascus purchased? Why the delay? In any event, I'm pleased that at least the knife was received.

Well Drdan,

I reread Kyle's post here and his clearly stated that he would send all the materials back when you emailed him with final arrangements. I suppose once you email him all the shipping information and you get your supplies this will be a dead issue. At the very least the issue has inched towards a closure.

Absolutely the customer (DrDan) should be made whole. No work was done. Kyle should only be compensated for his expenses like shipping. Any "supplies" should be returned to Dan if he so desires. It is strange that he wouldn't have files and works with knives? The Damascus if bought from Devin Thomas as I think it was, was probably pretty expensive and should be returned unless Dan wants to give Kyle a gift.

Only Kyle knows for sure, but my guess would be that the knife was shipped to Italy, confiscated by customs and then returned to Kyle. As far as the damascus is concerned, I would prefer to believe Kyle until it can be proved that what he said wasn't true.

Balisongs are perfectly legal in Italy, and would not be confiscated by the Italian customs. Even if it were illegal, I would have been notified by Italian customs. Here in Italy, it is illegal to carry any´knife with a blade longer than two and one half inches concealed...

Kyle was clearly asked to send the knife to a U.S. address rather to me in Italy. I did hear Devon Thomas damascus brought up, but had no clear confirmation it was ever purchased for the knife. A piece to make a latch and a clip would not be costly.

A lot of questions remain unanswered, and if Kyle would send the supplies to the same addressee, that would be the right thing to do.

Thanks for your best wishes and support during my waiting period! :)

Once again.
Loandr.

Eichenseer has made it clear that all Drdan needs to do is contact him so "they" can make arrangements to complete this transaction.

Notice the operative word. . . . . ."they ?" "They would indicate Eichenseer and Drdan.

How many more scabs need to be picked ?

Apparently neither party can receive email sent by the other, but they can both read this thread. I expect we'll be notified the supplies have arrived in the next few days, and then this thread can (finally) come to an end. In the meantime, there isn't much point in posting any more, is there?
