Vertical blade play on sebenza? - Update

I doubt anyone will have any issues for small things through CRK's warranty. Just keep in mind that if your lock bar moves too far inward and develops play, don't bother.

Sorry, not true. My '96 Regular went to, say, 105-107% with blade rock, and was fixed perfectly, rapidly, and for free.

They've fixed lockup issues for me as well. My 21's lock went all the way over and also unlocked too easily. I don't know what they did but it was fine when I got it back. I did pay shipping fees but you can't really help with that. I think only Kershaw does free shipping.

All,

I took the opportunity to email an overview of this thread to Chris Reeve's office.
Perhaps he will have opportunity to chime in.

You might reconsider, given the positive experiences many people have had. It's also worth considering that forums like this tend to collect unrepresentatively large proportions of negative reports...people seldom come by to post that they had no trouble at all.

Again Im going to have to disagree with you, there are always post in this forum stating good customer service and the great products CRK has. If anything the bad experiences are less frequent to this forum in fear of being attacked by the numerous fan boys.

CRK makes great knives but they are not god and can make mistakes, and I could understand if they owned up to there mistakes when they happen, but they dont.

Chris automatically assumes its something you did and nothing else. God forbid he ever made a mistake

Your starting to sound like Chris

Again your experience is different than ours. Doesnt make you wrong but we both have knives that were sent in for warranty that werent fixed. The odds are now 3 to 1 in our favor.

Believe me I wish I turned out like you with a good locking sebenza.

Well Ive sent 2 emails with no reply, and its been a few days now. Hopefully you can get some answers or maybe convince Mr. Reeve to chime in on this thread.

I would love to have a great locking sebenza like the one im currently edc'ing.

Wolf,

I hope he responds as well. I'm a big fan of Sebenzas (as a recent post describes)..but..if I ever have to engage the warranty..and it is not due to some abuse..and the issues are not corrected free of charge (excluding shipping cost), I would without hesitation cease in my support. The purchase is the beginning of a relationship; the warranty, and its' honor in being kept, are what keep my business..thankfully, I have not had to find out, good or bad, up until this point, and I am MOST thankful for the extrordinary quality/resiliance those I have owned have exibited, especially considering how I have truly abused some of them.
We'll hope together that Chris will read this, and address the perspectives shared.

You guys are crazy, people always talk about how if it develops play he fixes the lock...

Just because you had an abused / purchased used knife doesn't mean everyone does.

They don't just reply to threads. They usually formulate a response if you go on previous posts, lengthy ones and they might be doing a few shows. They also work 4 days a week so one can be a bit out of luck.

I know Spyderco and Benchmade are doing a few shows and some employees mentioned they won't be following the forums.

Just an FYI as they would say.

Read the previous posts before you talk please....

What odds are in whose favor?

Seriously, there are what...3-4 people that are doing the complaining? 2 of which purchased USED knives with no knowledge of their history.

You accepted the chance that there may have been something abusive in the knife's past. Why not just buy a new lockbar and be done with it?

I have half a mind to tear down all of my Sebenzas to see what the lockbar ends look like.

This maybe coming way out of left field here. If you wave an Emerson knife it's like flicking from hell. But those knives have thin titanium liners and g10 handels. And waving the knife is encouraged. Why then would a knife with "far superior build quality" be afarid of a little bit of flicking? CRK uses pretty thick Ti slabs. I guess I don't really know is G10 stronger than Titanium? BTW im not promoting Emerson knives, Just trying to find an extreme example of flicking. I do not own a CRK and for $400 + I probably will never but any knife at that price point that does not provide a no questions asked warrenty. If such a thing even exists :)

if a knife isnt abused the the manufacture sure stand behind there product no questions ask ,period. expecially when you pay the amount you pay.

I have had no problems using other manufactures warranty.

The ball detent on my crkt ripple went bad and crkt no questions asked not only replaced the knife but they gave me a first production run as well.

Granted Im not asking for a free sebenza but I ask for them to fix the lock bar no matter it be the replacement of the lock bar side free of charge or fixing it another way.

How exactly do you know that the knife wasnt abused?

Your 100% correct, and this is a question ive been asking for a long time but can never get a straight up answer. I dont like emersons personally but you would think if there knives can wave without issue then a sebenza should withstand normal edc tasks using a finger flick and not have any issues what so ever.

How exactly do you know that the knife wasnt abused?

How do you know it was? This goes both ways and it is possible that the damage occurred during normal use with NO flicking involved.

The fact of the matter is Chris can not over the phone diagnose an issue and tell the customer its their fault and gonna cost them when he knows not of the history of the knife nor has seen it. People have a right to be offended when they're all but called a liar.

you question has already been answered in a previous post. Either way Ive sent an email to Mr. Reeve and he will have the final say whether I continue to buy there products or not.

Because Emerson charges $200 for a $40 knife, he can afford to fix a lot of lockup issues for free.
