Vertical blade play on sebenza? - Update

Wolf. You do know that the warranty is supposed to only apply to the original purchaser. So that right there is grounds for not having your warranty honored.
When you buy a used knife there is no way of knowing how it was used or abused, parts swapped, etc.Looking at the picture you posted the lock bar has a gouge in it that I highly doubt is from normal EDC'ing. Very few companies have a "NO Questions asked Warranty." Sure it would be great but you cant fault a company for not having one.

This.

The "should this knife fail after purchase by original user" part? Who determines who the "original user" is? How can that even be determined? What is an "original user" anyway? If I buy it, then resell it without using it - am I the original user or is the guy who bought it?

That wording is so ambiguous it hurts to think about.

My point is, they include a rule in their warranty that they can't possibly enforce. They have literally ZERO clue as to who the original user is.

John, do you have a problem with reading comprehension?

The meaning of "original user" is pretty clear to me. I don't agree with it but c'mon, it means the warranty doesn't transfer when you sell it.

Though I have sent in 3 knives to CRK for various reasons and they have never asked for a receipt or proof of purchase. I've sent in second hand knives and they took care of it.

All of the people complaining are mainly trying to argue that it should be perfect or instantly fixed because of it being 400+ dollars.

Well I'll be honest, to me 400 is nothing. So I'm not expecting it to be a god product, I'm expecting it to be good.

If 400 seems like an intense amount to you guys, stop buying them, and buy something you can afford to complain about.

Stop trying to argue that it should be this and that and that and this for 400, when a Lamborghini costs a quarter-million and is still no where near perfect, and has plenty of issues. (I know this for a fact.)

I suggest you read the thread.

What about a brand new knife bought from a authorized CRK dealer which came with late lockup and play? What if you called within the first week, and Mr. Reeve deems that you have abused the knife and that's why it came out of the box that way???!!!

Do you have a snide and over zealous supporting statement for that?

I have one that is 95%+ out of box and has zero play and still does.

I don't think having lock-bar OCD is a reason to have a situation out of nothing.

This post comes across as being in rather bad taste IMO. People can complain about things they don't like whether they had to save up for months to get it or just dropped "pocket change" on that Sebenza.

It's meant to be a wake up call that if people need to rage about how bad a product "FOR $400!" (for 9 pages), is and not what they expected, and trying to make claims that emerson/ other makers charge less and have better customer service, then maybe they should have spent less money on a different knife and stop having unrealistic expectations.

Hmmmm. I wonder....am I the only purchaser who actually fills out and sends in the Warranty Registration card that comes in the original box with each Chris Reeve Knife, to prove that I am the original owner of that knife. I know we don't have serial numbers or anything like that for actual proof of each and every knife, but I have always thought that card had a purpose. Of course I could be wrong here.....

I'm sorry but this is a not a good comparison.

The fact that $400 is pocket change to you has no bearing on this discussion whatsoever.

They come with a warranty registration card that the owner should send in. Technically, without one of these cards on file, the knife is not under warranty.

OOPS, someone already mentioned this while I was typing.

So then all the claims that it should be perfect for 400 are just as irrelevant, good, glad you pointed that out....

And yet you're still a non-paying member, hmmmmm.

Honestly, at this price point, I would like to see a better warranty.
Strider and Hinderer mid-techs have much better warranties.

Go ahead, take a little piece of out of context words from my paragraph long thread, I don't care.

To answer your inquiry, it's because I don't care about a picture next to my name

I'll post a sebenza sitting on the hood of the murcielago if you're soooo skeptical, I didn't realize that success = gold bladeforum membership

Right. And I think a lot of this has brought me to this realization.

You obviously didn't wait for me to complete my post....Or you did, and you have a problem with reading comprehension. ;)

I honestly have no idea how many edits it will take you to "complete your post" to your satisfaction, I responded to what you had written the first time.

The "rule they can't possibly enforce" is that they will only knowingly honor the warranty if you are the original owner of the knife, purchased through an authorized dealer or Chris Reeve Knives directly.

But, you already knew that, you're only here fanning the flames out of emotional immaturity.

Anyway, I've said my piece more than a few times in this thread so I think I am going to be an observer from here on out. I hope you guys get your knives sorted out in a satisfactory way.

Admittedly, you were done with the histrionics days ago, now you're just trolling.

It's not about what comes with the membership, that's extra, it's about supporting the forum. Something I will take the time and money to do because it is something I believe is good for the knife community.

That being the case;

Well I'd rather give to charity than a community who argues over knife customer service for 9 pages.

Anyways I'm done here, this thread isn't about anything other than a couple people out of literally thousands who didn't like their warranty experience, ranting, I'll continue to enjoy how great mine has been.
