W&SS knifemaking passaround and giveaway

Nice drawing. It'll make for a really nice user out in the woods.

How long is the blade going to be? 4 1/2" or so?

Also, I'm slapping on the scales so if the person drilling the holes could drill a couple 1/4" holes for the two pins and one 1/4" hole for the lanyard tube it'll work well for me.

Just so we have the drawing on this page as well.... ;)

Alright then. Here's my sketch.

I like it; good basic handy blade shape. I would take a bunch of steel out of the center of the tang for balance but that's just me.

I know it looks a lot like a lot of other knives out there...

Yup. There are also a lot of cars out there with four wheels. There's a reason for that... it works! :)

Actually was planning on a bunch of lightening holes in the tang. Really helps the balance in my opinion.

I'm glad you all like the design. Gonna have to do one like this for myself sometime soon too. :-)

Someone should be added to the end of the list to perform a full review... I would do it but I have little experience and littler time. Someone volunteer!!!

I think I will put that in the requirements of the giveaway that the winner must post a review with pictures!

Charlie,

The steel was put in the mail this afternoon.

Alright, update time.

It is profiled out and I will be drilling holes tonight. It'll be shipped out tomorrow to the next in line for bevelling.

I have a couple of pics of me working on it (thanks to the wife) and will post those tonight along with a pic of the completed part I am doing.

Go figure that as soon as I volunteer to do something life gets crazy.

Love the feel of this knife.

Alright. Here's a teaser of me working on it. Gonna have a piece of apple pie then go drill some holes and clean it up a bit.

I think BigMike is going to do a full convex and he would prefer it to be heat-treated before he does his work (He's much more patient than I am).

I'll make arrangements to send it to the next willing participant in line.

Here's the blade on my wife's quilt cutting mat so you can get an idea of size.

And here it is in my hand. I really like the size of this knife. Definitely going to have to keep the template and make one for myself one of these days.

Just got back from an overnight to the catskills and saw the pics. Awesome looking blade Charlie! Maybe you could post this is a new thread seeing as no one responded. People may just think the posts are about us working out logistics.

Looking good Charlie.

The final shape is great.

I will definitely do a full convex grind on that baby.

And yeah, …keep that template my friend.

I just got the word from Bryan Breeden (sicily02) that this blade has been Heat Treated and is on the way to me for grinding.

Any photos Bryan?

And what hardness do you expect from the 1095 with your HT and Temper?
