W&SS knifemaking passaround and giveaway

The Blade has arrived from Bryan.

This is what he says about the Heat Treatment.

Heat treat should be at 58 to 59 at the edge and then I did a soft back draw on the spine so it is softer up there.

I'll post a few photos before I start grinding. ;)

Good work guys on keeping this moving along. I won't be able to post much for a while because I am on a road trip. Keep it up.

And here it is in my hand. I really like the size of this knife. Charlie

I will start my work ASAP.

Wow! That looks great!

I've got to decide on scales for this bad boy. I've got some cool Wenge stock that could look great. Bold, strong, durable. It should be a really nice match for this knife.

Nice work! It's got a real clean look to it. I just arrived in Texas and am on schedule to get back from my road trip just as this project is finishing up.

Where are we at on this project? I would love to see some progress shots. Sorry if I missed a new thread, I have been away for a while and am still sifting through all the threads I missed.

I dunno. I forgot about this for a while, but I would think that the blade should be on its way to me sometime soon to get some scales. I've got my epoxy just begging to be mixed!

I’m glad to see this thread come back to the top.

I was looking for it just the other day; it had slipped quite far back in this fast moving Forum.

I’m about finished with the grinding, just trying to make myself happy with the final details; the devil is always is those details.

I really like how the full convex geometry is working out, thin enough for efficient cutting while thick enough to retain toughness.

I expect to finish it up this weekend; of course photos will be posted.

Lookin' good, guys. I'm still on board to make a matching-handled ferro rod. PB_Wilson, let me know what you intend to use for the scales; there's a fair chance I have some on hand and can get started on it. Also let me know what kind of pins/tube you want to use; I have brass, stainless and nickel-silver in the standard sizes. Let me know if you need some. :)

Sweet - I can't wait to make the sheath for it!

I have one issue though - Can we stretch the time line for the person making the handle. Give them three weeks. I will be back home on August 10th and can make the pants for it then.

Shipping time may make it just right - but I don't want to disappoint.

cshepherd, when i get done sharpening it, it will be "sick sharp" as cjpgeyer puts it.

feel free to extend the time for anyone that needs it, I just set the two weeks as a goal. Glad to see this moving along again!

I looked through my wood stash and found some cool Wenge for the scales. They've got some bold lines and will definitely be tough enough for a working knife. Fiddleback has used some on his knives and I had Stomper make me a knife with Wenge scales that is holding up very well. I'll also send you some from the same board to make them match just right.

For the pins, I've got some brass and aluminum that will work. Not sure which one I'll go with yet. Thanks for the offer!
