If your not going to the Badger show, who are they going to give the best fixed blade award to? They already engraved your name on the plaque.:D

have a small forge set up, am in process of building a new one, if i were to cut the round in half length wise how much pounding will i be doing? usually only make small skinners and hunting type knifes. mainly have been using cpm 154 and im sure this w2 wont compare to the cpm 154 edge holding ability but the hamons make it more like a work of art and is something i am liking alot. also if i understand it right is very simple steel to ht unlike the cpm 154.

I'm not so sure about that edgeholding comparison.

I think you will find not only will the W2 compare favorably with 154cm but the ability for W2 to get wickedly sharp will impress you. The pain of cutting this material in half lengthwise would be reduced just by slicing off 1/2" rounds and forging them. Actually Dakota if you want smaller stock I have some 1.25 that I will be happy to trade you for the 2". I like the larger material. If you want let me know and I will send you 40lbs and Don can send me 40 of the 2". Same price and you pay Don. If you would like to entertain this let me know.

Wow, gone for a day and all this. Can't leave you guys alone very long :D

Dakota, personally as a knife user, I like W2 much better than 154cm :) or any other high alloy stuff.

As said above, splitting one of these bars in half length wise would be a pain and you would still have a 5 pound chunk to hang onto while forging. A 1/2'' slice off the end would make a nice size hunter, 1" to 1.5" slice would make a large bowie and a 2" to 3" piece would give you a large sword.

I can send you 2" or you can go with Chuck's very generous offer for the 1.25" size.

Thanks Chuck, you have two more on the way :)

Chuck,

If you aren't taken up on that offer, can I jump in? That is, I would order a box of 2" from Don and have it sent to you. You would then send me a box of the 1.25.

Let me know,

John

Sure. I have enough to do about 5 box's. Just let me know how you want to proceed and I will be happy to send it out.

Chuck........boring!!!! I have almost every size from 3/4 up to 1 1/2 and about 50-75 pounds of the quare stuff...lol Still gotta come up with free cash for some of the 2" though:D HeY Don....are you going to Batsons? I am flyng this year, so i can't carry any back with me. Just wondering if you are going to make an appearance...lol.

Thanks Dakota, will send it out Tuesday.

John and Chuck, will be glad to work with y'all on this, just let me know.

Joe, I think you do have every size :) I will probably not make it to Batson's, I just have too much to do and haven't started any knives for Blade yet. Actually haven't worked on a knife since I started this thread and I was already way behind :o

Thanks guys!

John,
Or anyone else interested, I have about 500-600lbs of 1.25". I am willing to trade it for 2" on a #for# basis. Just let me know if you want to work through Don or if you want to work directly with me.

Don I hope I don't step on your toes with this but I figure more people can use the 1.25 and I have no problem with the 2". In fact I like it better, the sword aspect intrigues me. I have forged a Wak out of the 1.25". I also have a bunch of 1.75, though not the selection Joe has. And I thought I was a steel Whorder. Well I am what can I say.:D:thumbup::thumbup::

SORRY BUT OFFER NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Actually, I'm not sure if I have every size. I have 3/4, 7/8, 1 and 1 3/4. but I can't remember if I bought any 1 1/4. I may have doubled up on the 1 inch because I have 5 bundles of the round if I recall correctly. Plus I bought a couple of 3 foot bars of 3/4 at Batsons so that I would have something to play with at the nasty green coal forge that weekend.:D I hope that Ray Kirk brings a little bit of that 15N20 like he had last year. I am ready to screw up what I have left of my stock of Admiral 1070/80 on some failed damascus attempts:p
