Walking Dead : Daryl's Season 5 knife (Sort of) Identified.

Man, how can you take such a beautiful knife and make it so ugly? Oh well. And if they didn't have some agreement w busse before making it then they are really jerks. I hope in time someone finds out the story behind it.

This blew up on the Busse forum a while back. I don't want to seem like a hater, but that looks.....disappointing for $300. I bet someone on the set stole that Team Gemini and they had to solicit replacements.

Knives in that show mostly are shit except Daryl's old Bussse and that girl's knife which one Carl was stalking innawoods in season 5. It's funny anyway - when apocalypse comes most of the high quality blades will stay in homes in some boxes and their owners will be probably dead. Those who survive must use some random, mostly cheap knives they found. I guess that Michonne's sword is some chinese shit too, much worse than CS swords for example.

If I had to guess, someone just contracted the southern grind to make that. Probably a prop guy who likes knives and since theynfilmed in GA, it doesnt surprise me that they contracted SG to do it. It aint worth $300 for sure.

And FYI, they dont have it on the southern grind website

Hmm they don't even mention what kind of steel that piece of tacticlol piece of swiss cheese was wrought from. It looks like someone bought a ten dollar blank blade and fed it to the drill press.
Sad sad times for The Walking Dead indeed.

I never watched too much, but didn't they used to endorse Gerber? I remember them finding a roll of, "Zombie hunting tools" at some point.

At another it seemed as though Andrea was carrying a Spyderco on the outside of her pocket.

I wonder what the story behind this change is.

Yes, they've found that Gerber stuff on the road in one car.

Not Andrea. Lori [Rick wife] was carrying Endura.

I believe it was mentioned on the site that they were made from used saw blades...

Am I the only one who thinks that if a product is made from recycled materials, or in this case salvaged, it should be cheaper? LOL

Ya know I am a huge walking dead fan. To me the seasons are never long enough. Its the one show that I wish was on year round. With that said, that thing disappoints. I was going to drop a good dead pan one liner on it, but then I noticed the tie in with an actual knife company and It took the wind out of my sails. I mean there is literally no joke that will get more laughs than that effort to begin with so why bother? The ONLY thing that I can think of is that they are trying to show that as time goes on bad things happen you are left to improvise. But even if that was the case I would think darryls weapon would be much more primative and to the point.

Yeah , I watch the knives in the show like a hawk , I noticed when Daryl and Aaron where trying to escape the trap the CGI blade for when Daryl went to kill a walker was the original TG , not sure if that means anything.

A reused saw blade for $300?!?!?! You got to be kidding me...... The old adage is true somewhere there is a sucker waiting to be separated from his money.

To my eyes that looks like a copy of the Team Gemini. I would rather have the TG than this one.

In an interview Norman Reedus gave, he admitted that after the filming of every season, he steals a crossbow from the prop department and takes it back home with him.

Listening to his various interviews, he seems to have a bit of a kleptomania problem; he stole a walker's head, he stole Rick's beard, so he probably stole the Busse too, and AMC didn't feel like paying for a new one.

Paying? Surely you must be joking...
This is some of the best publicity Busse has ever got. There's a page on the Busse website where you can see all types of movies where Busse knives appear (if even for a couple of seconds). Best believe one of the most popular tv shows is featured.
If they wanted one, Jerry would probably hand deliver one to the set. Maybe even a few, just to be sure they always had one on hand.
It's not the cost of the knife that's motivating this at all. And yes, that southern grind knife is a direct ripoff of the TGLB. (Trailerhouse Gemini Light Brigade)
