I already own two of his knives one from ebay used from someone else and one I bought from him on ebay and I always had good customer service with britt so I really don't understand why he is doing this to me. He has given me every excuse in the book from his mom dying to blaming the guy he gets the guards from blaming the guy he gets the butt caps from blaming the guy who grinds the blades ( come to think about it what part does he make if that's true?) even telling me the knife is 99% done hes just waiting on the bead blast then a month ago tells me he has the bead blast and the knife will be shipped out that week which was another lie because he continues to give me excuses to this day only his only excuss now is hes busy and gets a attitude with me the customer who has done nothing but waited 8 times as long as he said when I paid him

atleast im lucky and have pictures of every conversation and email and pictures and the numbers of the two money orders he received from me and cashed so shouldn't be a problem in court just a huge pain that a good business would not make you go through

As the dog said, never pay upfront. Some makers take on too much work, get backed up, spend the payments on living expenses, spend it on materials for earlier orders, run out of cash to make your knife and once their reputation crashes, can't get new orders to keep the Ponzi scheme going.

Crazy excuses from all over the place are a good sign he's drowning.

true sengvin
I think your right esav he seems like hes drowning if a business was doing good a owner wouldn't let this happen and get the name tarnished over 500 dollars. I wasn't trying to get anything extra or interest on the 8 months he did whatever with my money I only asked for the knife I was owed or the money I gave him. its probably not a good sign either if you cant afford to refund someones money and have one knife in your inventory you should be able to sell later

Exactly the way that I would describe it. I've often wondered when reading about folks caught up with one of these "less-than-scrupulous" knife makers if the Feds could be brought to bear on them for that reason - plus using the mail, crossing state lines, etc. Probably too small for the Feds to want to deal with it, but just the ole brain churning.... :)

Cool, that's understandable and I'm glad you didn't get tossed if you are sincere about being here.

Welcome to blade forums :D

But think of it as dining into random department stores and yelling that BK got your order wrong, tjmax don't wanna here about it. Take it up with the appropriate channels.

I understand now and hope I didn't cause to much trouble for everyone. I'm very sincere about this and just want to warn the knife community like I wish I was warned sorry again guys

(Black Star Knives)
btw His name is Britt Gudowski and he was banned from BF some time ago ...

How do you buy a knife without paying up front? Just curious.

For common models, most makers will start the work and contact you for payment when it's done. If you don't pay, he simply puts the knife up for sale to the next person, that's been the common practice for the last few decades.

Sometimes they'll ask for token amount to start work, which is o.k. . Also if you are asking for special materials or an extremely customized design, it's generally considered proper to work out special terms before hand.

Granted it won't stop a truly crooked maker from lying to you, but it will limit your exposure if a maker suddenly goes bad or runs into trouble down the road.

So just received my knife after 8 months from britt annnd its COVERED IN RUST. And obviously a old knife he must of had and given to me cause he was never making mine I assume! He claims its because its carbon steel but since it was only two days in shipping and won't come out I obviously don't believe it I will post pics as soon as I figure out how

I'd donate the knife to charity and take the tax write-off. The main thing is, start reading on this BF site to learn who honest knife makers are, and order from them.

THAT is lower than low. He did that deliberately, because you complained. Sick.

Pics!

1. Paid members can upload from their computers, but anyone can open a photo hosting account.
I use www.photobucket.com . Download your pictures and they give you a URL for each picture.
Use the fourth URL, with the tags already in place. Copy & Paste that in your post here.

2. Another way: go to [url]http://www.imgur.com[/url] and upload your image.
After uploading, select the BBCode option - it starts with [IMG]. Copy & Paste to your thread.

Don't accept that from any Maker. When I send a customer their commissioned knife. The have a 3 day viewing so to speak so if they aren't satisfied for any reason? they can contact me for a return.

No carbon steel commissioned knife should have rust on it unless you knew in advance that the maker did some kind of an oxidation process.

Tell this person you are NOT SATISFIED!
