I'd donate the knife to charity and take the tax write-off. The main thing is, start reading on this BF site to learn who honest knife makers are, and order from them.

He hit the nail right on the head. I can't believe how fortunate we are to have this site and its resources that give exposure to some truly excellent makers. I have bought many customs off the exchange here from knife makers who are truly honest, hard working and very talented individuals. Most recently I bought customs from Daniel Fairly and Graywolfknives and received excellent service and excellent products. Stick around here and you will find some true treasures!

Hello,

Most knife makers demand their money upfront before they will even start making a knife for you. And the well established ones will work with you but still want at least some of the money as a good faith downpayment.

For instance, Greg Wall sometimes will allow you to pay him half the money upfront. Then the rest after he is finished making the knife and it is ready to ship. Newt and Ed Martin will allow you to make a hundred dollar down payment. Then you can pay more while they are making your knife, or pay the rest after the knife is made and ready to ship.

When you do get your money back, I encourage you to either seek out and maybe order a knife from Andrew Clifford or from Martin Knives or Greg Wall. I have 5 ACK knife Including the very first 3 of his new 2013 different First Blood knives. A finger groove version, a much more hefty and beefy Black Blade version, and Andy's own ACK Sly II version, which is actually numbered #1 of a series of his Sly II versions.

Right now on Ebay, there is the ACK SLY II #13 up for sale/bid. Allegedly unlike this Brit guy, Andy grinds his own blades, makes his own handles, guards, and endcaps. Andy even makes his own sheaths for the knives. And I tell you, Andy's sheaths are out of this world quality!! Totally unbeatable!

I think Andy does request the money upfront before he starts on a knife. But rest assured, Andy will Never even one time try to steal your money. There might be times where he may have a delay, but thosw times are few and far between, and he always lets you know what is going on.

And also, he (Andy) is a pleasure to work with, and is very knowledgeable about knifemaking and sheath making. After all, he's been doing it for over 30 years! His Sly II is not an Identical copy to the original Lile, but he will tell you this right up front. But even at that, they come close, and the quality in an ACK knife is top notch. I have been Andy's representative here in the Midwest and at my local knife club. Andy wants to get his name known more here in the Midwest area.

I firmlay stand behind Andy and his knife making work, even though it's not needed, because Andy believes in letting his knives and work speak for themselves. And believe me, they really do! Believe me, I would not ever represent and show his knives if they were lackluster and/ or I didn't believe in his work. Wel,l enough said. Same goes for Martin Knives and Greg Wall. I will soon have knives by those makers and will speak up for them as well. Thanks and take care. I really do hope you get your money back from Brit, and extra too, for all that you have had to endure.!!

One more thing: Right now some Ebay Seller whom I was told it was that Brit guy from Black Starr Knives, has a Black Starr Knives handmade First Blood knife up for bidding with a Buy It Now price of $550. He also has a handmade Rambo 4 knife posted there too. With all of this, it makes me ponder this question:

How the Hell can he even post not one but several knives on Ebay and have them up for bidding and saying the First Blood knife will be ready in 4 weeks, or might even be ready now... But anyway, how can he knowingly justify posting these knives in Ebay while yet still owing this gentleman here a knife that he has done already paid for? This is very awkwardly strange to me. And to think, I Almost bought that Black Starr First Blood Tribute knife. Sure and glad I didn't. Had I of bought it, I'd be feeling awful guilty right now, knowing about this guy still waiting for his knife from him. I would just feel absolutely Horrible about it!

We all deserve everything we got ! You Sir was trying to fulfill your dream and buy good Rambo knife for low price considering the quality and you got burned let's be honest :-). I however did the same thing :) ! I bought the knife in the shadows not telling anybody that I'm supporting this crook. The knife I bought suppose to be user but upon arrival and inspection I have decide to get rid of it (the tip was already bend when I got the knife and was sooo thin it would brake right away have I used it !)

Like u said the knife was sitting somewhere (for reason) for some time and that's why the rust did build on it :) and that's not a problem . The problem is that mister knife maker is NOT actually knife maker but like I said knife assembler so he doesn't know how to fix it ! (It would cost him money to have it fixed !

He does Illegal copies of Hibben ,Crain and other knives he claims that he is fan and he is making Knives for Fans but the only color he can see is Green.

He is arrogant and rude to the whole knife community and he is making money by deception , and lack of knowledge of his customers like you and me !

Next time let's just buy one from V Neeley or Andy or if u buying Hibben one (RIII,RIV) ,yes those are more expensive but those guys are true knife makers and make those Rambo knives same or better than Lile himself.

Don't let BSK enrich himself on other peoples hard work and Fame.

Amen

Hello,

I had a run-in with this Brit guy a while back. He stuck his nose where it didn't belong and caused a whole heap of trouble with me and another knife maker. I could not believe how he behaved. he claimed he was a Christian in one breath, but then all of a sudden his mood changed, and Oh My God, the vulgar words that came from his mouth!! And I am Not the only one who has had issues with this guy. There has been many others. I think he claimed to be good personal friends with Jimmy Lile and his damily, and when Lile passed away, rumor has it that they reviewed Brit's alleged fake knife making work and gave him their Blessings to copy Lile's First Blood knives. I also think he claims that they even voluntarily Gave him all of Lile's CAD files to his original First Blood knife (the blue prints and specs). Could be true, could not be true. But that sure are some pretty bold statements from a guy that doesn't even make any of the important parts of the knives. And whoever said that Brit is more of a knife assembler and not a knife maker, is absolutely right, if it is true that Brit pays all these other companies to make the knife marts for him, and then sends them to him to assemble the knife.

To me, a knife maker is a person that designs his own knife plans, or even uses plans of another maker, but grinds their own blades, makes their own hand guards and endcap, and just basically physically handles every single aspect of the knife process they're making. Ray Matton does this as well as Martin Knives, Andrew Clifford, Greg Wall, Vaughn Neely. There are many knife makers nowadays that are legit and make the high end handmade versions of the First Blood and Rambo knives. This particular knife world really doesn't need this guy's knife assembly work anymore. esp not with so many other real legitimate knife makers out there who now make these Rambo knives.

Some makers make knives similar to Lile's famous First Blood and Sly II knives. But they purposely design and make theirs with some differences for the sole purpose of not wanting to be known as a copycat. Well, I say copycat but not meaning it offensively. I think any knife maker that hand makes knives that look just like Lile's famous FB knives and the like, have superb skills and are not to be sold short. I guess the word Copycat is the wrong word. So again, I apologize and do Not mean that statement offensively. Anyway, thanks and everyone have a great weekend!

Don't accept that from any Maker. When I send a customer their commissioned knife. The have a 3 day viewing so to speak so if they aren't satisfied for any reason? they can contact me for a return.

No carbon steel commissioned knife should have rust on it unless you knew in advance that the maker did some kind of an oxidation process.

Tell this person you are NOT SATISFIED!

I told him I am very unhappy and not satisfied and now he did it on purpose and he blames the carbon steel then says "you don't know enough about steel" even though I have plenty of carbon steel knives and his answer to make it right is send it back and he will refinish it ya I said it someone who has given me the runaround and lied to me for 8 months about sending a knife to me wants me to send it back so he can re beadblast it and trust him to not screw me again

he hs been selling them or atleast posting them on ebay throughout 8 months of lies and excuses he was giving me and he blames the customer and steel (that he chooses to use) and everyone else as a excuss

the problem I have with the knife rusting from sitting there is ive waited 8 months and it should of been the cleanest knife he ever sent which he claims it was when it left him two days ago and everyone knows that's supposed to happen but me who doesn't know enough which is bullshit because this isn't rust that will come off its eaten through the bead blast and that doesn't happen in two days. I already haveoriginal lile but its a safe queen so I bought this knife like you as a user and I wouldn't trust this knife as far as I could through it

I had a very similar experience he was very nice and helpful till was paid then all of a sudden hes giving me excuse after excuse and lies being very rude to me like im the one who did something wrong and that's when he wasn't avoiding me. then he got mad at me for exposing this to the knife community stead of getting mad at himself fo treating customers like this

I'd donate the knife to charity and take the tax write-off. The main thing is, start reading on this BF site to learn who honest knife makers are, and order from them.

I joined bf but I will always research on here first now Im a little behind technologically and I had no idea you guys would all be so helpful

After 8 months of excuses and lies (on a 4 week wait period knife) from britt owner of black starr knives he finally sent me a knife so id stop exposing what he has done to me on this forum and on ebay annnnnnd im livid because it came full of rust and worn off beadblasting the rust eaten through! He blames the carbon steel and says when it left his place two days ago it was clean oiled and brand new and that in two days delivery it rusts like that because the steel ( even though I have several carbon knives and NEVER seen any perminently rust in two days time especially while oiled and wraped up for shipping and then adds insult to injury by telling me "you don't know enough about steel" and any knife maker will tell you carbon steel rusts immedietly like that even though its permanent and wont come off. EVERYONE BE WARNED and don't let this happen to you! even though he obviously did this on purpose his answeto fix this is to send him the knife back fix cause apparently 8 months wasn't enough time for him to complete something he claims to people to this day as 4 weeks. to me sending a knife back to a liar who has avoided me and not lied countless times about sending the knife to me is not "making it right" and id rather expose the truth to fellow knife collectors so hopefully no one else gets burned and has to go through all this time dealing with a liar who treats his customers like they owe him something and insult them

After spamming our forum with your complaints you still have the cheek to open a second thread here about the same matter.

It is very apparent that you really do not care about warning us about Black Starr knives but rather to use Bladeforums as a fulcrum to get Black Starr to solve your problem.

So consider us all warned and stop posting about this matter.

I do not know how to erase all the posts I messed up the first time using the site I only tried to have one post about how he has not given me the knife in 8 months and tried to write one more to let everyone know he sent the knife and how unhappy I am with it and the shape of it thought tat be a legitimate reason for a post

Don't worry about them. If anyone is tired of reading your posts, they can click on another thread.

There was a problem at first, we solved it, FEEDBACK is for updated information about people we deal with, good and bad. Some people are tired of this topic, they can read something else; others have been participating with interest.
