Washington Street!!

My pair arrived today. I'm completely taken with them. I don't think I've seen any photos of a stag model as dark as this one (it looks much darker in person than in the photo). I like it. :)

Nice looking pair there Dan. I am glad I managed to aquire a blood red one and a smooth polished stag. Can't wait for them to arrive.

Thanks everyone! Cory, there is just the slightest hint of texture on the darker areas. It feels like very naturally pocket worn smooth bone, if you're familiar with that.

Very cool. I really like a tiny bit of texture. Just enough to let you know it's there. I love the variations in the polished stag. It runs the gamut, from the buttery smoothness of Blee's knife to the peppered darkness of yours to the mottled browns and grays of mine. Every one is unique. Very cool.

I finally got to handle a Cocobola Washington!
Admittedly, I was worried about how it would look, because it has a lot of "furniture" (fancy bolsters and shield) which looks good with the more solid colored handles. But I like it! It is more old fashioned or something - - - -anyway it's definitely pleasing in Cocobola I think.

This one shows the close relationship between Cocobloa and Rosewood which is almost impossible to buy! Very similar grain and colors!

I agree. I was able to track one down in Cocobola, which arrived today. It is very pretty indeed.

I think cocobolo is my favorite!!! Granted, it's the only one I own, but once I saw pics of it I knew it was the one I wanted. I agree that it looks a little more "old fashioned" somehow. I think the fancy wood and fancy bolsters work very harmoniously together.

The one I have coming looks just like this. These straight grained ones look nearly identical to the Brazilian rosewood tonewood you'd find on the back and sides of an older high end guitar. A lot of luthiers use cocobolo in fact because it has very similar tone qualities to rosewood - tight loud basses, round trebles - and is much easier to get these days. The rosewood alone for a guitar will run you around a grand and you're more like to find the less desirable Indian variety.

Really enjoying the pictures and comments about this beautiful knife.I have a stag and ebony comming. When I first saw drawings of these I knew I wanted one, well I got lucky they should be here Friday.

Charlie, I like what you said, though I'm not totally surprised. Because even details as that are important to you is why your knives turn out so well.

Gabon Ebony arrived yesterday and it is perfect all the way around. Waiting on my Autumn bone to come in next.
