WE Knives? Another high end Chinese company?

I get scratches in the same place from the copper coin pocket rivet on my Levis 501s.
Baffled me for a short time.

I have to make sure I keep my Wayferer more in the middle of my pocket when I wear certain jeans because of that stupid ass thing. Can't stand them.

It's near impossible to get those copper marks off of some finishes without doing damage.
Frustrating when I carry a new knife for a day or two then decide I don't quite care for it. It's a keeper after that or sell it as a user.
So, to get back on the WE track after this small derailment...
I'm interested in the 618 in some form with M390 (love it!) and am curious about fit/finish and value/cost.
A little steep for my first entry into this country of origin folder and would like to get some informed opinions on materials and heat treat on this blade since I haven't noticed a lot of this steel used yet.

every WE Knives massdrop comments are full of Chinese haters. every single drop, here's a current one.

The MD Discussion threads get kinda fun though! The feedback sections for knife drops on MD are about 10 years behind the conversation levels on knife enthusiast forums.

But, just a couple of pages back we had the same kind of idiocy rear it's ugly head in this very thread. Proof that the internets are the ultimate source of anti-wisdom :p.

Hey Mo! Don't you love when people have no clue at all and speak like their insane feelings are fact??? What a crock!
How can you state WE is making a clone of a Benchmade??? I just don't see it at all.
Joe

They used to, but nowadays, moderators have become much more prevalent which is good, because so have trolls.

I ended up taping over those rivets of all my jeans from how pissed off the scratches made me.

Well after telling myself I wasn't going to get another WE knife for a while I caved after BHQ put them on sale! I just received a 618B that is by far, the sexiest gentlemens folder I've even seen. Hand rubbed satin Bohler M390 blade is absolutely gorgeous and came ultra sharp. Just disappears in the pocket with a fit and finish that is flawless. Really glad I got it especially at these prices. Ok now I'm really going to slow down unless WE comes out with something mind blowing this year.

I dislike proprietary screws even though WE provides the tool with the knife. I noticed today that they also sell the tool separately as a keychain attachment for a very reasonable $3.95. Some other manufaturers with proprietary screws charge a lot more for these tools and in addition you may need more than one tool.

The irony is that, whether they buy em or not, it is the knife community that is much more accepting of the fact that China is producing some high quality product. Much more accepting than people who don't know anything about knives

That's odd, since the blue-handled one (606CFA) normally comes with purple-anodized hardware, while the purple-handled one (606CFD) comes with bronze-anodized hardware. I've never seen a purple/purple combo in a 606.

The "purple/purple" combo of the 606 actually IS the 606cfa. The blue ano eventually turns purple with normal oils from the hand. Same thing happen to mine over time. Not the first blue ano knife i've had that turns purple with oil. Here's a pic of mine

Hey DF!
I ordered the blue one, but got the purple. Came purple right out of the box. Really don't care as I like the purple.
The action on mine has to be one of the best I have felt! It is nothing less than a fantastic flipper!! Just rockets out and locks up TIGHT every single time!
Never thought I'd say it, but the Chinese can make one hell of a knife and I'm glad I have 2 of them!!

Yea mine was purplish already too out of the box, but was definitely more blue than you see there. And yup, I absolutely love the 606

So I'm guessing yours flips great too, right???
I also have a 603 and find the flipping action on that one fantastic also! It seems like they sat down and said let's design a great flipper and thought of all the little things that make a flipper great.
Little jimping on the flipper tab. Lock bar easily accessible, little texture on the part of lock bar that comes into contact with the thumb to un lock. No blades made into bill boards. They got the little things right.
Joe

How true brother!!! I was trying to make it not flip yesterday and it's almost impossible!
The 603 is set up the same way. Excellent action on that one too.
Been very happy with the 2 I have and will be on the lookout for more!
Couple of pics......cause why not??

How is that knife for EDC? I love the shape and the size but I feel it would be a bit thick to carry everyday.

I never warmed up to my 605. I still have it, but it's my least favorite WE. I never had any issues with its thickness in hand or in pocket, and I won't carry many Spydies due to pocket fat. It flips "ok" but not as good as any other WE that I have (601, 604, 615, 616). The handle choils are very pronounced and just don't fit my hand very well, but that's entirely personal. The detent is almost too strong and "catchy", but that might have broken in with more use. The knife feels a little out of balance to me; the handle almost too light and the blade too heavy.

Here's the thing though...most of my reasons are personal taste and preference. This knife might work great for you. If you purchase, maybe buy from a seller that will let you return it?

The WE 605 looks a lot like the SanRenMu 7033, but with a larger flipper, sans carabiner and overall larger package.
