We need to come up with more extreme contests

Jeff!!!! I was actually thinking about this last night!!! A few days in the woods with bare minimum stuff would make a great contest!! I will definitely do this. I'll post a pic of the stuff later.

Welcome to the RAT Tough Man contest, dude! Now we just have to get you some animal name like Dancing Bear, Walrus Penis or something along those lines. River Rat and Crow Dog have already been taken, in case you wanted those popular names.

Ah well, I wish I had some spot of nature anywhere near me, where I could do just that.
Sweden is a bit far ...

No problem with the monthly drawings and regular contests, but building a shelter on a day-trip or taking a picture of pristine RAT knives is getting kinda old and boring, don't you think?

I envision someone taking a RAT knife (or someone else's knife) and a pocket survival kit (and I do mean "pocket") into the wilds for 3 days with nothing else except the clothes on their back and seeing what they can come up with as far as surviving, or not :D Of course they would have to take a camera and keep a journal, and we would have to take them on their word that they're playing by the rules. In fact, we would have to come up with the rules before we start this RAT Tough Man competition.

My point is everyone always talks about "survival" but they end up taking everything but the kitchen sink with them when they're playing with their knives.

Feel free to offer any other contest ideas that would be a more extreme than what we've been doing. I'm sure we can come up with a lot of good prizes for a new contest. I would even be willing to interview the winner for an upcoming story in one of the magazines.

I've been meaning to do a weekend with just that stock E&E kit. Really a good idea.

How long? 3 day weekend, friday night to sunday morning?

I propose 1 light, 1 knife, and everything else in an altoid tin. :)

Where you at, Crowdog? I'll send you a Condor machete to use once we get everything squared away on participants, rules, etc.!

Within the soggy mitten. Thank you, i am sure that would come in very handy. I will p.m details when a due time is deemed.
Again thank you.

^ You seemed to have missed my previous post, in it I briefly explained that I am ineligible for a lot of these contests that look genuinely interesting and are something that I would be more than happy to participate in; although rather unfortunately I do not own a RAT knife, only a CRKT m-16 and a broken CRKT 10kz that was given to me. I do plan on buying an RC-3, that future has just not been made yet.:D
R.P #31

No, didn't miss it. It had been tossed around by Jeff earlier that an RC-6 might be provided to the participant. :)

That being said, if Jeff is offering to send you a Condor, take him up on the offer! :D They're too awesome NOT to try out.

No lights unless you can fit it in the Altoids tin. Fire works just fine. Scared of the dark? :D

My point here is I would like to see a duke's mixture of knives used. Maybe a larger fixed blade, a machete, a hatchet, a folder (for anyone daring enough to go with only a small blade), etc. That way I can interview several of you for the article and get a good mixture of different knife styles.

Maybe do a three day loan of the RC-6? Field testing kinda thing?

Take him up on that Condor offer though.

My exploits within this exercise should be rather interesting for you guys after taking into consideration that I am a 215 pound bodybuilder who consumes eight meals a day and at least a gram of protein per pound of body weight. Acquiring that amount of protein should be fun as well as will the gallon of water a day.

Gonna be hard to fit 12,000 calories into an Altoids tin! I say you will probably be on a 3-day diet if you do this thing.

Squatting Dog.

I on the other hand may have misunderstood the previous post, sorry.
Yes that would be a real joy. I am very excited!:D

The rigors of this challenge will be a fun set of obstacles. No problems tell I get out there. :D

And that, my friend, is the whole point of the exercise. We all talk this game but we don't really know what it's like until we have to do it with almost no gear and no comforts. It's actually damn fun, as much as it is hard. Done this a few times with no gear. You get hungry the first day and after that it pretty much goes away.

As a side note, depending on where you are I would suggest a small bottle of bug juice being one of the top things in the altoids tin. After doing these very deals several times, the mosquitoes can be the most challenging thing you face.

South Carolina's state bird.
