We need to come up with more extreme contests

And that, my friend, is the whole point of the exercise. We all talk this game but we don't really know what it's like until we have to do it with almost no gear and no comforts. It's actually damn fun, as much as it is hard. Done this a few times with no gear. You get hungry the first day and after that it pretty much goes away.

As a side note, depending on where you are I would suggest a small bottle of bug juice being one of the top things in the altoids tin. After doing these very deals several times, the mosquitoes can be the most challenging thing you face.

Very good advice.

I think innovation of your kit will probably be part of what this will be judged on. So, we will give points for the following:

1) Kit innovation.
2) Actual use of the blade and the kit's tools in the wilds.
3) The most survival tasks accomplished while in the wilds for 3 days (shelter, fire, food, etc).
4) Photo documentation and note taking of the whole trip.

I could fit a lot into an altoids can. . .

So, if it were me doing this competition, I would find me a nice lake that's known for good fishing and live well for three days since my altoid's tin would have a decent fishing kit and fire starter.

Hi,

If this actually starts, I'm in! :D
Got a big ol' wood waiting for me, and lots of spare time since tomorrow is my last college day for this year.

Those who carry the most gear, usually die the fastest!

I understand that this is still in its infantile stages so before I forget or this possible gets over looked, how are accessories such as watches necklaces and so on going to be regarded? I wear a small Swiss army knife all the time on a necklace; I have it to sharpen pencils. But you can see how out in the woods that could be very useful as could a watch so are we to strip all items but clothing boots shirt and tin camera/batteries etc. ?

I think we already posted something on this. No extra tools except for what's in the Altoid's tin. Standard clothing for the season and environment. So, in short, nothing extra in your pockets, around your neck, in your ears, through your nose, etc.

Real simple rules:

A blade (one only), anything you can fit into an Altoids tin (standard size for the all the smart asses :D ), standard clothing for the season and environment, notepad and pencil, camera and extra batteries. If you need to take a tripod for self-portraits, no problem. Cell phone and/or PLB for emergencies.

Thank you for the clarification and the reiterations. So until then, I wait.

Crowdog--how about melting a bunch of crisco into your tin after packing the stuff in there? Makes a good fire material and can help stave off the hunger! Nothing like a tin full of pure fat! :D

So, so far we have the following participants:

River Rat
Crow Dog
Squatting Dog

I sort of figure Bear The Dog will get in on this also.

:barf:......after two days I may have changed my mind though.
