We, the People, hereby request......

In Vermont 2am ish and BUMP just because.

Gotta say when I find another job getting one of the knifemakers on here to make one may be the only way to ever get one of these judging by Ethan's and Tooj"s enthusiasm for the project.

But then it wouldn't be a genuine Becker.:D

As far as Ethan’s or Toooj’s enthusiasm for the project, we simply don’t know whether either of them is enthusiastic, or not, because we haven’t gotten any feedback.

I strongly suspect that Toooj is rather constrained in what he can say, because the Becker line is Ethan’s baby, and Toooj may not be able to say anything until Ethan gives him the okay.

We haven’t heard from Ethan in a long, long time, so we don’t know what he thinks about it yet. I wish I could say that he’s called or emailed me, but he hasn’t, so I’m just as much in the dark as everyone else.

All we can do is wait ... and hope.

i know we like this particular thread... but...

this isn't a sales thread that needs to float up all the time...

bumping is content free and hinders flow of conversation. say something new/different and converse.

i'm more than sure THOSE PEOPLE know about the thread, and they have ideas, and they are probably not allowed to comment on them at this time. that's okay. when/if they can, they will, ya know?

so, please stop the +1'ing and bumping "just cuz"/etc (daily, every few days, weekly)... give other threads a natural chance.

thanks.

Other threads? There are other threads?

Just kidding. Bladite's right: we're bumping this thread a little too much — and I'm certainly as guilty of that as anyone.

There have been people who have been posting requests for, and comments about, other knives on this thread. Let's keep this one for the folder and — as Bladite suggested — start new threads to handle other knives: we can discuss those there.

There are a whole lot of people who are interested in this knife, and want to know if there is any progress yet, so they ask here. That's to be expected, I think, since there hasn't been any word about — or even acknowledgment of — the knife from The Powers That Be. As Bladite suggested, I can't believe that they're not aware of this thread, so they are simply keeping mum, for whatever reason.

Sadly, I don't know any more at this point (and I'm just as curious as anyone else) than the rest of you, but if I do get any information (that I'm allowed to share) I'll post it here right away to bring you all up to date.

In the meantime, though, let's post in some new threads, and give this one a little rest.

ETA: That doesn't mean, though, that if you do have something new to say, you shouldn't weigh in. Just that we shouldn't bump just to bring the thread to the top without new information.

13 pages and no folder yet...What in the world is going on! :D

We need a Becker folder ASAP!

13 Pages, 247 posts, over the course of 82 days, and all I can tell you is that I still don’t know. I wish that I’d heard something that I could share, but I really haven’t heard a peep out of anyone, so far.

I think it would be wonderful if everyone could buy the Becker folder — I think it would be a huge seller — but even if Ethan said “let’s do it” today, I don’t think it would actually hit the market for months (at least), and that’s only if they decide to do it.

Bladite said in an earlier post that they’re aware of it, so I’m somewhat puzzled by the silence. I know that Ethan’s a busy man, but I would have hoped for some word from him by now.

The only thing I can say at this point is that someday we’ll know. Yeah, yeah, I know, that’s blatantly obvious, but it’s the best I can do.

I hope that they decide to reward all of you who’ve been waiting patiently with a Becker folder in the near future.

Will it have a triad lock system

I rather seriously doubt it at this point, since the Triad lock system — designed by Andrew Demko — seems to be licensed exclusively to Cold Steel at this point.

I don't know that KA-BAR could license it and, even if they could, it might be prohibitively expensive.

I designed it with a sturdy lock back, but that could change, depending on what KA-BAR wants to do ... if they want to do anything at all.

I have some ideas for a new locking system bouncing around in my head, too, but that's for another time.:D

Whats a triad lock? I know liner lock and the buck knife lockback kind never heard of triad????

The Triad lock — designed by Andrew Demko — is a relatively new (2004, if I remember correctly) type of lock that really is quite sturdy. Simply, it tends to transfer stress through the locking pin to the liners in a more efficient manner than most locking systems, resulting in stronger locking due to not stressing any single point as much as some other systems. That's an oversimplification, and I hope I've gotten it right.

I haven't finished studying the Triad system yet, so I'm not an expert, although I am studying a number of locking systems right now.

For our purposes though, it's a moot point. The Triad lock is patented by Andrew Demko, and licensed exclusively (as far as I know) to another manufacturer. It's used only by them and Andrew Demko himself.

Is it really stronger than other locking systems? Yes, it seems to be, but let's not start thinking that it's the only thing to have. Yes it is stronger than most other systems, but that's a relative thing. A properly designed lock back, for instance, should provide all the security you need in a folder. One of the reasons that lock backs have remained popular for so many years is that they are strong and reliable.

If you want to know more about the Triad lock, exercise your Google-Fu: there is information out there.

:D Woa! Mr.late to the party here!
This rendering is a thing of beauty and I do believe I need one or two badly.
3 3/4" and 3/16" sounds just right to me, add me to the list of BeckerHeads that think this will be a winner.

Better late than never, Josh, and welcome aboard.

A lot of us are looking forward to seeing this Becker folder come to life. Grab some pop corn, settle back, and let's see what happens.

Grab some pop corn,

Some... a few boxes... a case.. :p

I was actually thinking about this last night. This, and something else that will remain unnamed. I believe if it does come to life, it would be a great blade to have where fixed blades aren't allowed.

Some of the big-box stores may sell popcorn in large enough cases, I think.:D

I think of this fairly often myself, but that's neither here nor there. I would be afraid to even ask what else remains unnamed; was it something else I designed? Was one of my ex girlfriends talking again? Or is it something I don't want to know about? Never mind; it's probably better that I don't know.;)

I think it would be a great blade for when a fixed blade isn't allowed, too, or for times that someone simply doesn't want to carry a fixed blade, but wants a big, strong folder with them just in case.

Happy Anniversary . . . of sorts.

It was three months ago today, April 23rd, 2010, that this thread was started.

No, I still don't have anything new to share, since I still haven't heard a word from anyone about it.

Happy Anniversary, anyway.

To paraphrase Douglas Adams, a folding Becker would be the bee's knees, the gnat's elbows and the complete set of erogenous zones of several major species of winged insects.
